Since she is taking her cat, maybe she is just going to see David in Vancouver? or go to one of their other houses?
Anyway, this record label is I believe the home to that musician that I posted about, the one whose music will be used in the film, apparently they have seen the film and they say it's very loyal to the book, which makes me a little nervous, Lol.

Mr. Bean....hmm, I’m a fan, but that’s an interesting comparison 🤨
I can only remember the plot points from the book, which I guess is a good thing, ya know? It’ll have a small level of freshness where the dialogue is concerned
Still find it wild that some of us are gonna see this movie before we even got a trailer. I mean I know it’s the nature of the circumstances. But, still...it’s a first for me lol

With another big budget film moving to late 2021 and theaters closing everywhere and COVID cases spiking again, I have no idea how this film comes out in February. I don't see them selling to a streamer either.

Yea...I'm wondering if they are gonna do a limited qualifying run and then straight to Digital/VOD.
That whole Regal/Cineworld thing is a mess, btw!!

Probably too late for them to change plans, but who knows

Several big films are now moving to mid / late 2021 and The Batman is moving to 2022.
I hope SCP will do a limited in-theater run to qualify for this year's awards even if they postpone the Feb. 21 official opening.

Does anybody know anyone actually going to theaters?? A colleague of mine is and so is this other mutual friend of ours. For the most part, ppl I know are going to drive-ins more than anything else...as far as theatrical experiences go.

No one I know. Everyone is streaming.
Would a Drive-in booking qualify for awards consideration? Or does it have to be an indoor theater?

I have no idea the rules on that.
AFI just announced their full lineup. No FE.

Apparently the embargo lifts at 10pm on Sat which people are saying is not a good sign cos it's the day of the public screening and a few days after the press.

Is that the review embargo or the social media embargo? Those aren’t always on the same date.

The review embargo I assume.

I have no idea the rules on that. AFI just announced their full lineup. No FE. Boo!! I woulda loved for this to have been a part of that lineup!! I also wonder how much is dependent on Michelle willing to attend. Probably not much at all. I mean, Where is Kyra played at a couple of fests without her ever attending so that’s probably not a factor

The review embargo I assume. Oh, ok. That’s not the most unheard of tbh. I think I’d be worried if it was both. If a movie is bad and the ppl behind it know so, they’d do everything to keep it a secret as long as possible. I guess we’ll know tomorrow night after the press screening and ether or not we get reactions

I think people are just making assumptions at this time. I'm sure we'll get some reactions after this airs hopefully.

Nathaniel from The Film Experience said on Twitter that he cannot talk about it until Sat. evening, so it seems it's both. Probably not a good sign, but who knows.

Let's not forget they screened it for media already and Frank Brunie wrote about it in the NY Times, so....mixed signals on what exactly their strategy is.

I really want this film to be good, but unconventional. Not unconventional from a stylistic, technical standpoint, like mother! or Where is Kyra?, but more in terms of tone. I want it to be whimsical, droll, have a healthy dose of irony, the guts to laugh at stuff normal audiences are too afraid to laugh at and have a poignancy and a poetry to it as well. Most of all, I want it to talk about and explore who these people are, flaws, hangups, quirks and all. I want it to be brave enough to do all of that.
I know it's a tall order, but the potential is there for all of that.
A lot of my colleagues were lukewarm on The Sisters Brothers and I wasn't all that crazy about The Lovers so we'll see if this was the right team to pull off a film with the above qualities. But tbh, the idea of this film being in the pipeline got me through the Maleficent era so I'm rooting for it to be something special lol

God I'm so nervous now. Please don't tell us we are in for another disappointment? I'm ready to be disappointed, but there are so many mixed signals with this one, Lol. Some positive signs ( NY Times mention, great release date 4 months after the NYFF premiere, which points to confidence, etc) Now this embargo is maybe a negative. I also wonder why they would allow Frank Brunie to write about it but then embargo it until after the first public screening is over. Or maybe Frank was the only one they showed it to who liked it? Lol.

Not to overthink, but are there any movies in the recent past that have been embargoed for a couple of days, but turned out to be well-received after all? Most of the embargos that I can think of were really long, like weeks (which is not a good sign, and you can kinda tell by how people in podcasts/social media are sort of mentioning it without saying it's bad). I didn't even realize a 3-day embargo could be a potential negative sign until you guys mentioned it.

It all depends. Marvel and Disney (mainly Marvel) sometimes screen their stuff ridiculously early for critics (except for Star Wars and Avengers) and so you have these loooooong embargoes. It all depends on when a film reaches a critic. The earlier they get it, the longer the embargo. And diff companies have diff rules. One of my editors is so beholden to them and won't budge at all whereas my editor on another site I'm on eventually go so fed up he told us, if you see another review for that film already online, go ahead with yours lol

I didn't even realize a 3-day embargo could be a potential negative sign until you guys mentioned it. Usually people talk about embargoes for films before their actual releases in theaters, but this is a film festival premiere, so it's different I guess? I don't know. Lovers Rock which opened NYFF was also embargoed until the day of the premiere, but hours ahead, during the day the reviews came out and it got rave reviews. I think On The Rocks also had an embargo until the night of its premiere at NYFF, but I believe that embargo ended an hour or two before the premiere and it got good reviews. So in this case, it's not really that there is an embargo for however many days before, but the time it lifts, which is after the premiere. That's what is odd here, to me. But it could just mean nothing at all.

I just got a screener link to a film I'm reviewing starring Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan (double yum!!) which comes out on the 23rd and the embargo is up the day before on Thursday. Lol

Yeah I don't think we should jump to conclusions as could mean nothing at all. As admin says this is a film festival and reviews are still coming out on the night it premieres.
