From Azazel Jacobs and deWitt has written the screenplay.

I'm....surprised Jacobs is directing this. Let's see what happens.

Jacobs last film was from A24. Please let this happen.

I'm torn about Jacobs directing. I thought The Lovers was interesting, but there were a few things about it which didn't connect with me. At least de Witt is writing the screenplay tho, which makes me confident.
Both The Sisters Brothers and The Lovers got acclaim (the former more than the latter) which means that de Witt probably has a good relationship with Annapurna, and Jacobs is in some kind of good standing with A24, the companies who released those films...I wonder if they've got any deals going with them, if not for production costs, then maybe for distribution.
Still, this makes it all the more closer to being official!!!

Most of us wanted a drama/indie and looks like that is what we will be getting. Sounds like a great character for Michelle and nice to see her still mixing up her film choices.
Interestingly Jeff Sneider said the financing of the film is expected to work out.

I think it's a dark comedy actually, according to descriptions/book reviews, which I'm liking. I'm hoping there will be a slight surrealness to it! If this plays out the way it should, but doesn't get her a Golden Globe nom, I'm gonna be pissed lol
I caught the financing line too in the article, which I'm hoping is true!! Would love to hear his source on that...I really don't want another Man Under situation lol

Also just noticed in the Collider article that Pfeiffer and Jacobs are both represented by CAA

Also just noticed in the Collider article that Pfeiffer and Jacobs are both represented by CAA Also just noticed that the article says Patrick DeWitt wrote the screenplay for Jacobs' first film, I didn't realize that and I saw it a while ago, so this pairing makes sense. Odd that the trades have not reported on this yet, I hope Collider didn't jump the gun.

I know! I hope they didn't either. This would be such a fun, great project for her after Marvel and Maleficent...just the kind of film she needs to keep things varied and interesting. The role sounds pretty amazing, I'm surprised Streep or Moore didn't snap it up as soon as it was optioned!! In any case, with both Michelle and Jacobs being repped by the same agency, maybe it has a better chance of getting made; as in their people at CAA will fight for the movie to happen

The Lovers was good to me -- not great but good -- this role sounds like super juicy fun for Michelle

If someone had asked me to describe the kind of character I'd love to see Michelle play, this would be it. Everything I've read about the book and the people involved sounds promising. But memories of Whatever Makes You Happy and Man Under haunt me. I don't want to get too worked up about this until I hear it's official. The financing part is always tricky with Indie films. Usually, there are multiple financial entities putting up the money and any turn of events can trigger one of them to pull out at the last minute. You never know. And let's hope a reputable distributor with deep pockets picks it up so we don't have another Kyra to deal with. Sigh. When did being a pfan become so much work?

I'll wait until the trades confirm it before getting too excited. We've been burned before.
However, it does sound like a great part and certainly more accessible than 'Where is Kyra?'. I know nothing about the writer or director, but hopefully it all works out.

You should seek out Terri, Jacobs' first film, it's pretty good, was nominated for a lot of indie awards.

I agree we should wait for the trades to definitely confirm this before we get over excited. Thought this deserved it's own thread though as Michelle has brought it up with Today Show and Out magazine and now we have a director attached. Collider have been getting quite a few Exclusives lately and Jeff Sneider must have some inside scoop on this though for him to post it and for him to know the financing of the film will be resolved.

I'm not subscribed. Prod Weekly is so expensive. It usually has a list of producers and a production date and production companies.

I want to also say that I was worried that her experience on Kyra might stray her away from doing another indie, but thankfully that is not going to be the case. Great news. What a year it's been so far, Lol.

In many ways, Kyra was a harder film to get made with soooooo many things working against it. The only thing it had Dosunmu's name among the industry following the acclaim he got for Mother of George, and Michelle's interest. French Exit has a director with similar acclaim for his previous film, Michelle's involvement AND a novel from an author whose been celebrated and whose previous film adaptation likewise received some acclaim.
If Kyra can get made, I've got hopes for French Exit...

I'm guessing Tobias Datum would be DP, Darrin Navarro editor and Mandy Hoffman the composer, all frequent collaborators with Jacobs.

I'd rather this went to A24 than Annapurna. Annapurna seems quite a messy company. They had to drop a few projects last year and they've made a right mess with Where'd You Go Bernadette.
Both deWitt and Jacobs are friends with John C. Reilly and his wife who were both producers on Sisters Brothers and obviously John starred in Terri from them both. I wonder if they could be producers on this?

Azazel Jacobs is on Instagram and he follows A24 but the only other company he looks like he started following more recently are BRON Studios which are a pretty big production company. Would be good if they were involved in this. Probably wishful thinking though.

A24 released his last one as you mentioned so that's probably why. I wonder if this will be one of those situations where it doesn't find a distributor until after festivals. I don't know if I could handle that again, Lol.
I'm also dying to see Debra Winger's reaction when she finds out Jacobs is working with Pfeiffer, Lol. I hope she strokes out.
