Yea that’s pretty common for fests. That’s why they’re usually such a pain to cover. Also, I hate writing those kinds of reviews, personally. Those no time to let your thoughts settle and fully formulate cuz it’s a fest and you wanna be one of the first ones out of the gate. I like to live with a film for a day or so before I say “this is how I feel.”

Any more word on interviews, etc?? Or still just that one that was mentioned earlier?

Wait a second, this makes no sense if the embargo for 10 pm is also for social media reactions. That's after the premiere starts and people will also still be watching virtually, so why even bother restricting media people from tweeting about it if the public is watching it and obviously not held to an embargo and can freely talk about it? lol. Must just be for print reviews.

Never mind, the person just said it's for social media reactions too. This is bizarre.

Man, either they feel this is movie is a secret weapon and the studio is doing everything they can to capitalize on the curiosity and generate as much excitement and anticipation as possible from it...or it's a real embarrassment of a film and they're not wanting to face the music and admit so until they finally have to.

There is a big part of me that just feels like there is no way this can be a terrible film, or even bad really. He has not made a bad film yet. All over 70 on Metacritic. It would be such a bummer if this is not good. but then.... If we go back to The IRISHMAN that premiered at NYFF, they held the press screening the same day as the world premiere and the press was allowed to talk about it on social media but their actual reviews were embargoed until later that night. This one is having its press screening three days before and no reactions allowed until after the premiere. That just seems really bad on the surface, but we just don't know for sure what their reasoning is. If it was a good film, wouldn't they be okay with people posting positive reactions ahead of time? I have to step away or I'm going to go nuts.

I think we are just over thinking now and fearing the worst.

The good thing is that all of this guessing (and second guessing) will be over soon because October 10 is very very near, hehe. I'm excited to hear everybody's thoughts and punditries this weekend!

I know the embargo is Sat night but I wonder if we'll get any small indications tomo night of which way it's going to go.

But he said he can't talk about it until Sat., so I won't hold my breath. I doubt he'll want to do anything that might jeopardize him getting any screeners early in the future.

Or an exclamation point, and if he's a little giddy after the screening, that's a good sign. hehe

I'm kinda glad in a way. It's nice not to have any sort of influence or indication about reaction, one way or the other, going into this. It's so hard to achieve that level of secrecy with films nowadays so going into this as blind as we are is something I'm actually becoming more and more grateful for. I'm actually gonna have some champagne on Saturday while I watch this cuz it's a special occasion lol. I even ordered some flutes from Amazon cuz my loser, cider-drinking self doesn't have any in my cupboard ha ha

But I'm excited for all of you (and to read all the comments) who will be able to see it this weekend. As long as it's good, it doesn't matter if I probably won't be able to see until next year.

Nathaniel just confirmed to me the embargo lifts at 10. He agreed it seems very strange.

I guess it's also possible they think this film is "critic proof", meaning they know it's good and know it will get good reviews, but just want to control the narrative for whatever reason. Sometimes films that have late embargoes end up being good and sometimes films that have reviews released days and weeks ahead aren't very good. Anything can happen.

You know what, I feel like I completely overreacted to that embargo news. So far we’ve had a film editor, a director, and a columnist say good things about the film and pfeiffer. Not to mention that video I posted of that critic and HFPA member who said people who saw a preview of the movie really liked it.
So I’m choosing to believe that hype and be positive. Now I know why Bond gets so annoyed lol. Just let it play out. Hope for the best and if it disappoints then we can grieve together.

They've added more tickets to the virtual event due to the demand - or so the NYFF says. Appears there is a lot of interest and maybe the awards buzz for Michelle - whether real or hyped - is working.
The proof is in the pudding. We shall soon see.

I've gotta say I've been put through the ringer with my day job, my critic work, disappointment with some friends of mine I'm not speaking with at the moment, etc. So whether or not this movie is a hot mess or a stunning work of art, this screening couldn't have come at a better time. Never have I needed Michelle doing what she does best more than I do right now lol

But still, I just have no idea if that's positive or not lol. I guess those are all the tweets we are gonna get, not surprising. There were two critics who logged it as watched on Letterboxd, but no ratings or even likes. That's part of the embargo too.
