Yes, it's funny that Variety have Michelle down as No 1. Hopefully they have inside information.

It's nice to see but, he's a pretty bad predictor and I feel like he just put a big jinx on her chances, Lol.

I just listened to this and unless I missed it, they did not mention FE. I even asked a question about her performance and the film and they didn't ask it, there were only 3 questions submitted and they asked the other two but not mine, LOL.

The Ny Times listed 10 films that are must watch at the NYFF but FE is not on the list, maybe they just hadn't seen it yet. I really hope this film is good, but there's so many mixed signals (god word of mouth but they are biased, then find out it was rejected by TIFF, etc), I'm feeling kinda down on it lately.

We're all going to be so nervous the day this premieres at NYFF and praying it's received well.

Variety put up their pre-season Oscar predictions. Unless they have some inside knowledge, it's a little weird that Pfeiffer is at number 1 (above the actresses whose movies have already been seen). But I'll take any good buzz that I can get, hehe. AND THE PREDICTED NOMINEES ARE: 1. Michelle Pfeiffer: "French Exit" (Sony Pictures Classics) 2. Frances McDormand - "Nomadland" (Netflix) 3. Vanessa Kirby - "Pieces of a Woman" (Netflix) 4. Viola Davis† - "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" (Netflix) 5. Rachel Zegler - "West Side Story" (20th Century Studios) NEXT IN LINE CONTENDERS: 6. Jennifer Hudson: "Respect" (United Artists Releasing) 7. Kate Winslet: "Ammonite" (Neon) 8. Amy Adams: "Hillbilly Elegy" (Netflix) 9. Carey Mulligan: "Promising Young Woman" (Focus Features) 10. Andra Day: "The United States vs. Billie Holiday" (Paramount Pictures) Hmmm....West Side Story

I am so tired of McDormand and Winslet getting nominated like it's nothing. We all deserve another Pfeiffer nomination after almost 30 years!

I don’t know too much about The Prom so I’m not sure if it’s a Mamma Mia situation or an Into the Woods one. I know that Soderbergh one she’s got coming out probably IS her character’s story

His track record on Netflix is disappointing.

For me, his track record in general is extremely hit and miss. Glee, Feud and American Crime Story can all eff off, but Pose, The Politician and certain seasons of American Horror Story are actually my cup of tea. Never saw the two movies he did with Julia Roberts, but Running with Scissors was kinda good. Hollywood was THE WORST tho lol
I'm actually supposed to review Ratched for a podcast I'm on so we'll see what that mess is like lol

The thing is, all it needs to be is just okay or decent and not an outright dumpster fire and Meryl will walk her way into another nom. It's ridiculous and so fucking old. She hams it up and people applaud. I'm over it.

I liked Feud, Normal Heart, early seasons of Glee and season one of AHS. I even liked the Cunanan thread of ACS. But agree - Holllywood was awful. Maybe Murphy's awards will come from Boys In The Band, not The Prom. We'll know pretty soon.

Then there are people like Winslet, Blanchett, Judi Dench, Amy Adams, and Streep who get "good"reviews and they get nominated without any sweat. That said, I have to confess that I still love Streep, I'm actually not that annoyed that she keeps on getting nominated.

Obviously they wouldn't say anything different but the producer said she is so so proud of the film and Michelle and Lucas shine. My takeway though is that at least the producers are supporting the film. Unlike with Where is Kyra where I feel like nobody involved in that film cared enough to make any effort.

Other than that, mediocre to the core, verging on terrible (The Iron Lady).

Sasha Stone's current Best Actress prediction: (highly speculative since she hasn't seen it)
McDormand Kirby Davis Hudson Pfeiffer
"Next we head into the sight unseen performances. A big one will screen soon at the New York Film Fest – Michelle Pfeiffer in French Exit. Pfeiffer has never won, needless to say, despite a long and interesting career full of great performances. The film does have a talking cat so it could go either way."

I'd say among her recent nominations, she deserved the noms for Julie and Julia, The Iron Lady, Into the Woods, and The Post. The only outright bad performance that she got nominated for was Doubt.

This isn't a "Cats vs. Dogs" type movie lol

Can’t wait! I’m assuming Sony will run an aggressive awards campaign for Michelle and the film??" and she replied: "Yes!" But is she saying "Yes!" to the first part as in being excited and happy I'll be seeing it in October or the last part?? Lol. damn it.

We should all stop fretting. I don't think there's anything credible whatsoever to Best Actress predictions by ppl who haven't seen the film. Nor is there anything to the lack of mentions in general. I dunno how a person is supposed to comment on a film they haven't seen other than saying: "Oh, yea, it's also screening at the fest." Even if some people were to say: "It looks good. It sounds great," what can ya do with that? It's such an empty statement with nothing to back it up.
Nothing can be taken seriously or credibly by anyone outside NYFF or the film's own team until after October 10. That's all there is to it.

All the oddsmakers and predictors have cheapened awards season. It's become a joke, really. People making a living off predicting the nominees before they see the performances. It's the Kentucky Derby without mint juleps and fascinators. I hate it.
