What have they done for The Father yet? Have they been more proactive overall with that one? I know it's playing at more festivals than French Exit so far

I'm thinking the performance is the thing, not so much the film but it's wrong to assume when we're just reading between the tea leaves. The book is quirky and off putting in a way. It's going to be very interesting to see how DeWitt and Azazel handle it. It could go either way.

I know it's playing at more festivals than French Exit so far There's talk from the producers and others that Anthony Hopkins' presence on social media is really going to be most of the campaign for it and Olivia won't be campaigning at all because she's busy with work. A poster was released a long time ago for that, I think around Sundance.

Hmm...do they always play it this low key? I gotta admit, I'm not the best at gauging how aggressive each studio is with awards season beyond whether or not I get screeners from them.
Does anyone remember what their approach to The Wife was? A similar pattern would help French Exit if it's the performance they're squaring in on.
Also, is there a comprehensive list somewhere with all the festivals whose lineups are yet to be announced between now and release?

Tomorrow is the day to see if I can get a ticket or not. Excited.
This film is not doing the Hamptons Film Fest either by the way, but two of SPC's other films are. Don't get it.

Can't say I'm familiar with that festival. If this had been a normal year I would probably of been disappointed by the lack of festivals but I guess I'm not really bothered this year. I hope we get a live stream Q and A with Michelle, Lucas and Azazel for the NYFF.

The New York Film Critics Circle said today they are not changing the date of their awards, so French Exit and Michelle will not qualify this year. So that sucks. That’s a big precursor award. I’m kind of hoping SPC changes the date to earlier, but I doubt they will.

I’m kind of hoping SPC changes the date to earlier, but I doubt they will. So the NY critics timetable does not coincide with the Academy Awards. Meaning, she will be eligible for an Oscar nom but not a NY Film Critics award? I wonder if this holds true for the Golden Globes and other film critic groups? But wait, if FE premiers next month at the NYFF, wouldn't it still qualify? Or does it have to play in a commercial theater this year to qualify? OY, I am so confused...

The latter. It needs to have an actual theatrical run. I'm wondering tho if SPC, and other studios will send out screeners before the end of the year. Still, I don't think that would change anything. I sent out a "disappointed" tweet about it a little while ago.

It has to be released to be considered for the NYFCC awards, yes. The Variety article mentioned this film as not qualifying this year. The Golden Globes are different, studios can screen films for them and have them qualify that way even if they haven't been released yet.

Oh, I was clicking and just on a loop of the same three pages looking for something that would actually point me to a purchase link. I think there was a slight delay in posting the purchase links tho. But yay!!
I wonder if we can watch it twice. You know? Like I know it's a 4-hour rental window, but can we replay it after the credits roll and get another viewing in? It's still within the 4 hour time frame after all...lol

I don't see anything on the site that answers your question.
Kinda glad I opened an account with the film center. I may use it to watch other titles in the future.

from the venice film festival rave reviews for "nomadland"... another oscar for frances mc dormand? 😵😵 I love Chloe Zhao, so very happy for her. McDormand is basically Streep level now, she can do no wrong in people's eyes and I love her, but she had no business winning for 3 Billboards. And giving her a third so soon would be...ugh. Meanwhile, Ammonite is getting very mixed reviews, so bye Kate Winslet! Couldn't happen to a more obnoxiously thirsty person.
