Isn't Charlize Theron a big Pfeiffer fan? I remember reading something about it a few years ago. This is extremely exciting. So glad she did this film. This puts her back on the radar of auteurs and other A-listers. They're actually watching this film and seeing what she can do. I will say, if Lawrence gets awards love and Pfeiffer doesn't, I'll be angry. I hope they both get some notices.

That's just what my hopes r...the idea that this could lead to more opportunities w ppl who want to give her stuff that will challenge her n show other sides to her talent!! Awards would be amazing too...but more chances for great projects first n foremost. I reckon it's possible.

Paramount has their FYC site up and as expected are pushing Pfeiffer for "Supporting Actress" www.paramountscreenings.com/Deadline is also doing their annual "Contenders" event with actors, directors, producers from awards contending films doing panels/interviews/Q&As with Academy members in attendance. Lawrence is the only one listed as being in attendance for 'mother!', but it looks like it's a day after the Graham Norton appearance for 'MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS' so Pfeiffer can't make it. That sucks, but hopefully she'll be able to do other events and campaign. contenders.deadline.com/

I´m glad they´re not giving up on this as they shouldn´t. This puts Michelle (and mother!) back in the race (if she ever got out).

I think if she nails it in 'Murder on the Orient Express', the Academy might offer her the nod to encompass a great year of work.

I think if she nails it in 'Murder on the Orient Express', the Academy might offer her the nod to encompass a great year of work. for Murder or mother?but since Mich cant make it to some event I hope Jennifer campaigns for her a little, like just say how great she was like she did in Venice 'mother!'... although her acting was very naturalistic in that, so she may get a few more showy moments in 'Murder'.

They’re doing a SAG screening in December with Q&A after but only Lawrence is going to be there. I wish Pfeiffer would do these too and campaign, but it’s the ”JLaw” show. I think if Pfeiffer campaigned she’d have a decent shot at some nominations like the Globes.

Is this a behind-the-scenes photo or from a scene that was cut? I don't recall this in the film:

Looks like whats happening is the studio is focused on Hong Chau for suooporting actress not Michelle also probably they do not want to use quotes from reviews like Michelle steals scenes or is the best part about it because Jennifer would not like it and she is the star if it. Did not even use the MICHELLE PFEIFFER GIVES OSCAR WORTHY PERFORMANCE from Rollingstone in the ads so looks to me like they do not want to anger Jennifer or overshadow her. O well.

Hong Chau has a good shot at a nom, unless the reviews and public reaction torpedo Downsizing the way they did Suburbicon. So far, this hasn’t been Matt Damon’s year.
And why why would Paramount, DA, or JLaw object to pushing Pfeiffer for Best Supporting Actress? It would only help the film and she’s not in direct competition w Lawrence.
Pfeiffer is getting raves for Murder which only helps build the positive buzz surrounding her return to films. Granted, that may not be enough to land her a nomination and certainly mother! isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but Pfeiffer has a lot of momentum now. We shall see ....

From what I read, critics weren't too TOO impressed with Downsizing; at least not as much as its makers certainly would have hoped. Nearly all of the reviews I read said that various aspects of the film were flawed/could have been stronger. However, they all loved Chau. So there u have it: a studio w two potential supporting actress nominees, both of whom got much much better reviews than the films they r in...

Yeah, Downsizing got mixed reviews, some really bad but some really good and Chau got raves. She has a good narrative and great shot to get nominated, but there's also a lot of criticism about the character, stereotypes, etc.
Interesting note about the Paramount awards publicist: She is doing the campaign for Allison Janney (the current frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress) and 'I, Tonya' which is a totally different studio, and also doing the campaign for Chau, who has been doing Q&A's for her film everywhere, so I agree with Crissy, it looks like Paramount is more invested in getting Chau a nomination to this point.

For me, what I hope this year produces for Pfeiffer, more than anything, is a swell of interest from producers/directors in the industry that will now want to work with her and offer her some meaty roles.
I feel like the industry and the general public has sat up and taken notice of Michelle this year. She looks amazing, has gotten good or rave notices for all her work and has stated many times that she is eager to WORK.
There is a narrative building towards an oscar. It might not be this year, but hopefully that role will come.

In a way, it kind of sucks that Pfeiffer already did the Variety "Actors on Actors" for the Emmys, she could have done it for Oscar season and I think it would have had more impact. They just announced the Oscar season lineup for this. All of the main contenders for Best Supporting Actress are doing it: Holly Hunter, Janny, Metcalf, Mary J. Blige, Hong Chau. Saoirse Ronan is paired up with Kristen Wiig. That's really weird that Paramount is pushing Wiig, she is hardly in mother! and Downsizing.
A Saoirse Ronan and Pfeiffer reunion interview would have been fantastic.

I hope she does one of them, but it seems like the other studios will be more likely to get their contenders in, they only have room for small amount of people on those. Pfeiffer might just not care at this point or Paramount just thinks she has no shot? It'll be interesting to see the FYC ads when they come out, if they're all Lawrence focused or if they give Pfeiffer some love.

I mean if Jane Fonda could get on a roundtable for her one extended scene in Youth, which was a brilliant performance that took her to a Golden Globe nomination, maybe there's a chance w Michelle n mother!

You can bet Lawrence will be doing one, too. If Pfeiffer isn't on one of them (LA Times or Hollywood Reporter) I'll be so disappointed.

Glenn Kenny of the NY Times and Ebert has 'mother!' in his Top 10 films of 2017. IndieWire's Eric Kohn has it at #12 in his best of 2017. Pretty cool to see it getting more love from the critics.
