I think you're right, Roald. I feel a similar in the sense that maybe i've seen so much stuff that's different n out of the box in terms of shock n overall content, that this didn't "assault" me the way it did other audiences.

I´m back home from the cinema and wow! What a mesmerizingly clever movie. I loved it. I guess people seem to hate it because it´s a social criticism and they feel attacked. It´s a purely human movie which represents people at their worst.
Michelle Pfeiffer gives an amazing performance, easily the best one I´ve seen this year.

Roald, you've written a wonderful review and your English seems perfect to me. Thank you Michael Also, another big newspaper here just reviewed mother! It gave the film 3 and a half star out of 5. The critic say that the cast is good and especially praises MP and Bardem! No special mention of JL (a bit weird).

Someone showed it to me yesterday...I love how Paramount is using both sides of opinion to push this movie as a conversation starter

This is such a beautiful photograph. Her eyes are so piercing. P.S. Sarah Paulson liked the photo on Twitter :-)

I was the only crazy fan who finished work early to be the first one to see it. The cinema was totally empty. No one was there to even see "It".

She looks so beautiful. It´s utterly stupid that people still accuse her of getting plastic surgery

All of these can change since the majority of films on the first 3 lists have yet to come out. My colleagues said Battle of the Sexes was barely memorable, incidentally. I still dunno how Holly Hunter is a part of the conversation. She was good, but the role isn't nomination-worthy.

What a weird list. They put Jlaw as a "Major Threat" to the "Front Runners" in the Best Actress Category, but Pfeiffer as a "Long Shot" in the supporting category. Weird since Pfeiffer's role, at least in my opinion, is better written the JLaw's role. I.e. Pfeiffer's character is better fleshed out. Her lines are more memorable to me. That alongside a very good performance gives her a somewhat better chance of earning a nomination than JLaw (which mind you I think is very good in the film). Though I'm still not convinced that MP will get one, given the script, the subject and how it's handled. And of course it doesn't help that MP's character disappears after the first half of the film (even though it has an impact on the second half). But we'll see ...

It'll be tough to predict who is really gonna be in the running until the critics groups start to give out their awards. Until then, it's essentially glorified guesses/wish lists from journalists.

Aronofsky has always been a ruthless, awkward and disgusting author with a voice that resembles no other.
Mother! gives as much disgust as they say, but also is a unique work in the history of the cinema. A truculent metaphor that does not need to understand but suffice to feel it. And it feels. Go if you feel.
a Michelle Pfeiffer who returns to remind us that her presence is the most magnetic that a film screen has ever captured. It opens this very Friday 29 in Spain. Stunned, ecstatic or disgusted, it will be physically impossible not to leave with an opinion about it. And so the only thing I have clear is that Mother! is, above all, a work of art. (Critique of Vanity Fair in Spain)

He probably has Lawrence as a major threat because she is an AMPAS darling and the biggest movie star in the world right now. They love her. She has yet to be "snubbed" for a performance in which she is in contention. They nominated her for American Hustle for goodness sake. That said, this will be MUCH tougher for her to get in. A divisive film which will turn a lot of voters off, which bombed at the box office, in a VERY crowded year for lead actress performances? I don't see her happening. A Pfeiffer nomination would be one of the coolest in recent memory, but I think that ship has sailed

There is A LOT of industry support for this film. Harvey is a trainwreck, but still influential, for sure.

I actually just watched "The Big Sick" today, Holly Hunter was fine in it, but it's just some regular/standard performance, nothing really outstanding but comfortable to watch with, Michelle can easily did that without "acting".

I agree with this, Hunter was nothing special, at all. She was serviceable. I don't think she deserves a nomination for The Big Sick, but I wouldn't be shocked if she got one, she's another AMPAS favorite and her movie got great reviews and did great at the box office.

Agree and exactly why I stopped reading these wish lists. They are maddening. I can't believe The Hollywood Reporter has one writer who does nothing but write analysis after analysis of who is leading who in the awards sweepstakes. Wake me when the nominations are announced. LOL

This film is up to about $16 million in the US after three weeks. It's doing pretty well overseas so far.
