I really thought the Seattle Film Critics would give her a nod, she got great reviews from the critics there and Moira Macdonald is a huge pfan...but again, nope. The Gotham nomination will be it, it appears.

Museum of modern Art chooses Kyra for the Contenders series www.moma.org/calendar/film/5025?locale=enSaturday, December 29, 5:00 p.m. The Museum of Modern Art Andrew Dosunmu's third feature, Where Is Kyra, stars Michelle Pfeiffer in a career-best turn as Kyra. Following the death of her mother, unable to make ends meet in an isolating and brutal New York City, she is forced to take drastic measures to survive. Bradford Young's masterful cinematography, rendering images of near total darkness, perfectly embodies Kyra's fraught state of mind. Courtesy of Paladin Every year there are films that resonate far beyond a theatrical release—if they manage to find their way to a commercial screen at all—or film festival appearance. Their significance can be attributed to a variety of factors, from structure to subject matter to language, but these films are united in their lasting impact on the cinematic art form. For this annual series—which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year—the Department of Film combs through major studio releases and the top film festivals in the world, selecting influential, innovative films made in the past 12 months that we believe will stand the test of time. Whether bound for awards glory or destined to become a cult classic, each of these films is a contender for lasting historical significance, and any true cinephile will want to catch them on the big screen.

So I get an email this morning from this publicist for Magnolia Films reminding me to watch the awards screener for this movie they're giving a solid push for awards season called Damsel, a western starring Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska. I finally put it on because the link expires in the morning and I'm going out to a vintage screening of Misery tonight (heh heh). I need to watch it because it's a Texas film and every year, we at AFCA award a prize to the best film shot/set in Texas that year and this made the committee's short list. Anyhow, the film starts and the first logo that comes on the screen: Great Point Media!!!!!!!!!!!!! Argh!! Pisses me off!! Ha ha

And her performance still pops up on The Best of 2018 lists.
Does anyone think she will ever talk about Kyra and what went down?

I really would love to hear her thoughts on the film and story, though. It's so important and timely and this is such a departure for her, so different. I really thought she'd get an AARP Movies for Grownups nomination, but even they snubbed her today, Lol. Whatever.

This is a really great piece on Pfeiffer's performance and also takes a shot at so-called fans who don't seek out and support films like this. Only issue I have with this piece is her not showing up at Sundance or BAM, we know she could not make it to either, but the writer of this piece clearly didn't have the info we do. The rest of the piece is spot on, though. www.reverseshot.org/series/entry/2533/two_cents_2019

Kyra is one that I have to walk away from. A huge missed opportunity and textbook case for how to derail a lifetime career performance. Sigh.

So do I get expelled from the Pfeiffer Pfan Club if I don't purchase 'Deceit' from UK iTunes? I already imported the US Blu-Ray, you guys!

I was just thinking, what are the chances this film gets a Criterion release? I think it's a perfect fit. I hope it happens.

Have any of you watched the teaser trailer for the new Joker film? I noticed a few similarities between it and Where is Kyra?, Lol. Joker stands outside holding a yellow sign trying to get customers in, Joker also cares for his sick mother, giving her a bath, Joker seemingly has financial issues, etc. I just thought it was funny.
