Welcome, everyone.
Does anyone happen to have a SiriusXM membership? It looks like they talked about Where is Kyra? on the Andy Cohen show with Sandra Bernhard a couple days ago. I tried signing up for a free trial but it's not working and they don't post free audio of their full shows.

I had no idea one of my favorite veteran character actors, Sam Robards is in this film too! He wasn't even on the IMDB cast list before, at least I don't remember seeing his name there or in any reviews. Oh, and still no distribution

The french magazine is Studio and the article is about Sundance 2017. Where is Kyra ? is one the 3 top choices in this year's selection for Studio. Between the two others choices, this one is said to be "Le plus émouvant" which means the most emotional. The article says : "Away from the screens since the Family in 2013, Michelle Pfeiffer is back with Where is Kyra ? She marked the 2017 selection by her great performance of a 50 years old woman who is going through quite a downward spiral after the loss of her job and the death of her mother - she will be forced to make up in her to get the money she needs for surviving. An harrowing portrait by Andrew Dosunmu and beautifully illuminated by Bradford Young, the chief operator of Arrival." I hope my translation is clear enough... 😉

Thanks so much! Is Pfeiffer really popular in France? Does she usually get good reviews from critics?

I can't help but to keep going back and reading the Guy Lodge/Variety review for this. It makes me so happy. We've been wanting Pfeiffer to do daring indie work for years now and she finally has. This is the kind of work Nicole Kidman has been doing and doing very well for years. Here's hoping Pfeiffer does more like this. "Fearless", when is the last time we could say that about a performance from her? White Oleander, maybe? I can't wait to see this. variety.com/2017/film/reviews/where-is-kyra-review-1201969982/I mean, just a flat out rave: Also, here is the Letterboxd page for this film: letterboxd.com/film/where-is-kyra/ Letterboxd is much better than IMDB. Professional film critics and just regular movie fans rate and review films they've seen. This has pretty good ratings so far and also some comments like this:

Thanks so much! Is Pfeiffer really popular in France? Does she usually get good reviews from critics? Well, she was popular in the 1990's. Dangerous Liaisons was a great success in France. Critics still love her and she usually get good reviews, even if the movies aren't great. I think it's great that she is now working with talented directors (Dosunmu, Aronofsky, Levinson, Branagh) because in France people think that the director is much important than the actors. I'll tell you if she is in the french press in the next months, I hope so !

Just watched the post-screening q&A that ION Cinema posted on YouTube featuring the director and producers of the movie. Nothing earth shattering to be gathered except that the film was SO low-budget, they only had 18 days to film, with each day lasting between 8-10 hours!! Not sure bout anyone else, but I hadn't heard this before... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzw822UNZug

It's possible that some distributors at Sundance were interested, but recommended they go back and re-edit or add back some scenes with dialogue, something like that. Though, listening to Dosunmu and the screenwriter, it doesn't sound like there was anything cut that would really add anything in that regard.
Let's see if they take this to Toronto in September. If so, I bet someone will snatch it up then, especially if they feel Pfeiffer can be a big player in the Oscar race, depending on how the other films/contenders are looking.

Considering the reviews this film has had so far I can definitely see this premiere at Toronto too. Would love it to go to A24 or Sony Classics.
