Everything has gone too quiet on this film. I know it's out in Feb but still no trailer or poster. I wouldn't be surprised if Michelle now misses out on a GG nomination also.

Yeah, I hate to think negative, but I could see the HFPA not liking it either. But they historically really like Michelle, so, we'll see.

Nice to see her still in their "Leading Contenders". I hope she realizes she might not have these "career best" raves or a juicy big lead role again anytime soon and really goes for it campaign wise.

Sasha Stone thinks the fifth slot if still down to Michelle, Amy Adams and Andra Day. I think Day will be top 2 or 3 though. Amy probably has no shot. Loren is a big threat. Please just campaign your ass off Michelle.

Any likelihood the HFPA will give her their lifetime achievement award this year? Too early?

Any likelihood the HFPA will give her their lifetime achievement award this year? Too early? Probably Fonda or someone else. To me, Michelle probably would say no to something like this if approached, she just doesn't seem to be one who wants that attention, but I could def. be wrong.

Add Robin Wright to the list of contenders. Focus will release her directorial debut in which she also stars on the same day as FE. This year is just not going how I hoped or thought it would lol. So crowded.

On the latest Goldderby podcast, Pete Hammond said people shouldn’t discount Michelle in the Oscar race. Anne Thompson though said she thinks FE will kind of just fall by the wayside

Nomadland trailer looks beautiful. If only Michelle could land a role like this.

Possible spoilers for those intending to watch The Prom Ok, so I just watched The Prom and I'd be surprised if Streep got an Oscar nomination. I mean she's a great actress but this is far from some of her best work and the storyline of film - hereafter called The Never Ending Story since I felt like it was 7 hours long - felt really unimaginative and I don't know ... "sterile" (does that make sense?). And do all the main characters in the film really need a sob story? I felt like I was watching a bunch of heartful interviews with contestants on Pop Idol. Do you guys really think she´ll get a Golden Globe nomination in the comedy / musical category?

I still have not bothered to watch it yet, but she is Meryl, she will at least get a GG nom, she's a lock for that. They nominate her for everything, more so than the Oscars.

I didn't realize the LA & NY film critics excluded films released after Dec. 31, 2020, so their field is more limited than the Academy.
From Goldderby.com -
"As with the New York Film Critics Circle, these awards followed the calendar year ending December 31, and not the extended eligibility calendar for the Oscars that runs till February 28. So LAFCA didn’t consider films that are coming out in the next two months including “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie,” “Falling,” “French Exit,” “Joe Bell,” “The Little Things,” “The Mauritanian,” “Pieces of a Woman,” “Supernova,” “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” and “The White Tiger.” Keep that in mind when making or updating your 2021 Oscar predictions."

No kidding, took them long enough, even with this extended year of eligibility I was getting a bit concerned lol.

Do you guys really think she´ll get a Golden Globe nomination in the comedy / musical category? Watched it last night and I'm with you to a point. Murphy is using his $300M Netflix deal to create content that promotes diversity casting, calls out inequality and puts a spotlight on marginalized and minority characters. I'm all over it. Long overdue and I salute his intentions. The problem is the messaging is so heavy that it sucks the life out of the entertainment. I always feel like I'm being telegraphed how to react or relate to his characters. The PC deck is so stacked in The Prom that it feels like the never-ending story about half way through. We've all seen this film before - it's Carrie and Grease shaken with lavender cocktail mixers from Hairspray and dollops of Glee and Mean Girls tossed in. I actually didn't hate it. It's entertaining at times. The musical numbers were staged well and the cast gave it all they got. Streep sang well and didn't seem out of place in her big production numbers. Unless Patti PuPone sues on unfriends her, her back account and professional reputation are safe. There was nothing subtle about any of this but subtlety in a Ryan Murphy musical is about useful as autotune in an Erika Jayne video. Back to your question - yeah, I think the HFPA will nominate Streep simply because they see it as Meryl showing her range by playing a cliched Broadway diva has-been.

He had her #1 after tweeting out the update and Streep #2, then changed Michelle to 2 and Streep to 3. He's a bit of a mess lol

I've already seen The Life Ahead, Let Them All Talk, and Promising Young Woman. I like all of them, particularly PYW! I used to think Mulligan ain't really a serious contender, but after watching her movie, I was blown away by her performance! If voters watch her movie, it's hard to think that they won't nominate her. There's a lot of acting in this movie, and Mulligan was fantastic!
I also really like Sophia Loren's performance. It's a more internal performance that is somewhat reminiscent of Emmanuel RIva's performance in Amour. She might get in as well. Too bad since I feel like Loren and Pfeiffer are battling for the same voters (those who are going for veteran actresses aiming for an Oscar comeback).
I don't think Streep is a threat. It might even work against her that she has two movies battling for the same spot. She'll likely cancel herself out. Candice Bergen is the one that I really hope pulls through in the supporting category.

I was so bored by Let Them All Talk but Streep was good, the whole cast was. I can't wait to see PYW, if Michelle can't get an Oscar this year, I hope Carey does.

Appreciate getting your reactions to the other performances. At the moment, it feels like it is Mulligan's Oscar to lose.

I agree that it feels like Carey's year.
Looking forward to the seeing it. I am a fan of Emerald Fennell.

These are the FYC screeners Sony Classics has sent. Apparently they are always this bare and without any jackets or books or you know any kind of flare or effort. Ugh.

Well, Zendaya is getting raves for her movie now and people say she could win. I want to go back a few months to when we thought it was going to be a weak year. Ugh.

Zendaya, stay away from Michelle ¡¡ The smarty and prepotent Scott Feinberg says that Zendaya and that movie will be in... And he adds that the movie it's in the level of 'Mike Nichols 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf' ¡¡ ah, ha,ha, don't make make laugh Scottie.
I remenber some years ago when he said that Gabourey Sidibe and Monique were brilliant and excelent in 'Precious', ah, ha,ha....
The Oscars can be ridiculous and a joke, but I'm possitive and I think this will be Michelle's year, possibly as it was for Julianne Moore, the year of 'Still Alice'.
I hope that Michelle will win Golden Globe.
Carey Mulligan is bland, for me.
I would like an Oscar for Sigourney Weaver, too. She is pure gold.

Ugh, if I'm being totally honest, I just find Zendaya to be completely overrated. She is a triple threat, yes, but I don't really see what makes her apparently stand head and shoulders above all other ex-Disney Channel stars... None of her performances have been particularly impressive to me, and independent of that, her roles and movies just haven't hit the mark either. I doubt it'll be any different with this movie. An Emmy and an Oscar would just be jumping the gun to an absurd degree, in my opinion.

She’s been lucky to be in great projects, like “Euphoria”, in which everybody else is more outstanding than her. On another subject, I just watched “Pieces of a Woman” and I loved Kirby and the movie as well. I feel shattered. I wouldn’t mind to see her win if Michelle doesn’t. I also hope Burstyn wins her second Oscar for this. I have not seen Mulligan, but I don’t want her to win. Lol.
