Giving the people what they want. Also, I hope this thread won't become unnecessary after this Saturday, Lol.
To start off, the Gotham Awards, which nominated Pfeiffer in 2017 for Where is Kyra? announced they will hold their ceremony in January. The submission deadline was Oct. 1st. That might seem like bad news for French Exit, but...they also announced they would consider any film that will be released through February 28, 2021. So hopefully SPC submitted the film even though it's not finished.
The SAG awards also said any film or TV show released between January 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021 will qualify.

Embargo lifts on Saturday night, so no early reactions tomorrow. Hopefully we can get the Pfeiffer campaign started this weekend.

Will Mavity just updated his Actress predictions and I believe moved Pfeiffer up to #6 from #7 previously. I'm not sure if he just saw the film or not though, but I think he must have.

Matt Neglia and Mavity also updated their adapted screenplay predictions today. They did not have FE in that category just a few days ago, but now Matt has it #6 and Will #8

What site is that on?

NextBestPicture.com and if you type in Google nextbestpicture best actress and the arrow next to the result and click on the cached version, you can see their previous predictions and compare with their updated ones.
I know for sure that Matt Neglia just watched the film this morning, just not positive about Will or the others that have updated. Matt already had Pfeiffer #2 previously, and that didn't change today.

Matt Neglia has her at No 2 as of today.

Yeah he had her #2 before today as well.

I was doing the same thing (hehe), but I was looking at Goldderby. And so far, no recent changes yet. I wonder though if any of the editors from Goldderby watched the screening. I'm also interested if Sasha Stone have seen it yet. So far no changes in her predictions in her site.

I'm also hoping there are other aspects of the movie that stand out other than Pfeiffer (probably the screenplay, or Lucas Hedges for supporting). It's just better for her campaign if she's not the only one who has a shot (and being campaigned). The screenplay seems promising though...

Maybe people don't want to change their predictions until the embargo has lifted?

It just got a 4 star rating on Letterboxd from critic Lorry Kikta of Film Threat

I think it's safe to assume now that the movie at the very least is "campaignable", and will not crash and burn at the festival. At least that's how I'm feeling right now.

Matthew Jacobs (Huffington Post) just added Pfeiffer in his prediction at #3. I don't know if he was at the screening.

Matthew Jacobs (Huffington Post) just added Pfeiffer in his prediction at #3. I don't know if he was at the screening. He previously had her #5, I would think he probably saw it. But in not so great news, Clayton Davis, who had her #1 for a while, just moved her down to #6 after seeing it. Better than taking her out completely, but...sigh. www.yahoo.com/entertainment/oscars-predictions-best-actress-michelle-182355077.html

A lot of people seem to say Clayton is not very reliable.

That's true, but that's just not a great sign after he saw the film. But honestly #6 isn't terrible, probably means she's very good and the film is very good but might not be Oscar friendly enough.

This article is interesting and talks, too, about Glen Close, Ellen Burstyn and others (in the best supporting actress categor I have the intuiyion that 'French Exit' will be present at this year awrds cerimonies. variety.com/2020/film/awards/oscar-season-age-records-commentary-1234797506/I will be ansioux to read your reviews tomorrow, but can be a film to enjoyyyy. And I think people wants a film like that in these times, I would like to know if in the movie is there other actress who runs the character of Frances, when she had 15 years old and says that phrase about her mother...

Somebody from Letterboxd described this as reminiscent of Royal Tenenbaums/Arrested Development, which I think are more "elevated" comedies. With the Grand Budapest Hotel getting a lot of nominations a few years before, I think the Academy would be more open to this kind of performance, even though it's not necessary "baity". At least that's my hope.
Critics also love these kinds of movies. They rarely go with "baity" performances in more traditional (and mediocre) movies. So hopefully, this will also be a contender for some critic's prizes.

Nathaniel just put up his predictions. He put her at #5. I guess it's really not a "baity" role.

Yeah and something tells me that "Career best performance" line from Dennis Lim is just an outlier and not consensus.

I don't agree with Nathaniel's assessment that Kate Winslet is a very likely nominee (Viola Davis and McDormand, I agree). Many people have already seen her movie, and many don't have her in the top 5. And she's currently at #8 in the aggregate Goldderby ranking. Pfeiffer is at #7, could either go down or go up once the pundits start updating their predictions.
I honestly think Pfeiffer still has a good shot, especially since there's already a campaign in place for her. At least she's at Sony where they can really focus on her. Netflix has like 5 contenders for Best Actress.

I'm wondering how the film's reception will impact her chances.
If the reviews end up mixed to negative overall, it could hurt her chances - great performances in light or marginal films are often overlooked. On the other hand, I'm sure there are a lot of Academy voters who feel she is long overdue and she is generally beloved by the industry. That can be a powerful force in the voting process, no matter what the limitations of the film may be. So far, her performance has been highly praised and that could be enough to land her a nomination.
Speaking of reviews, when is Rotten Tomatoes going to add French Exit to its list of films?

She needs this film to be 70's on Metacritic to really stay in it.

This is getting raves from Variety, a big Oscar article for Michelle from Deadline, and lots of bad to mixed reactions.
I would not say she is totally out, but Globes are probably it for her for now. I hope SPC still gives her a push.

Panned by The Guardian who gave it 1 star. Reviews on Letterboxd seem mostly favourable with most giving it 3, 3 and a half and 4 stars.
