That was such a great scene in the movie. So happy to see this picture today. It's been a hard day at work and I'm so despondent. This really helps

Seeing as how this is part of the "Oscar race" issue, I expected more praise for her performance and actual awards talk for it from this article. Maybe they re-wrote it after the reviews, lol.

Maybe they just needed enough ppl/films to fill the issue?? Lol
This wasn't the cover tho, I'm assuming, right?

I think that's how they really write an article for an Oscar contender. I collect EW magazines (way way back) and that's really how they write a spotlight for the Oscars, especially if you're not the cover story. And they did devote an entire paragraph about the Oscars (3 times nominated, but never won, she's making a French entrance to the race etc). The article is very complimentary, called her a legendary actress and that despite the divisive reviews, nobody could resist her performance, and it's her meatiest role etc.

This got an R rating, if anyone cares. There's really nothing warranting an R in my opinion, well I guess maybe that one scene but come on, Lol.

I agree!! That's random...but then again, I remember hearing Jodie Foster once say that having the word c***sucker in movie with no other foul language, violence, sex or nudity was enough for an automatic R rating. Eh well lol

I have seen PG-13 rated films that have more stuff worthy of an R rating. The MPAA is just dumb.

Mixed tweet reaction. They must be sending screeners to more critics and pundits. Depressing. I really thought this would be "the one" for her.

Had the film been better and not so divisive she would have been a lock for Best Actress nomination. But over the past few days, I have reluctantly concluded that is less likely to happen because the film is so polarizing. What makes this difficult to accept is it's exactly the kind of role I've been wanting to see her in and I had hoped the film would go over well with the critics. And it's doubly disappointing because of the lack of leading roles for females in her age bracket. There just aren't going to be that many more opportunities and we all know who has first dibs on the few great parts when they come around. It's a real shame because the role is perfect for Michelle and she did an amazing job with it.
In time, I may be able to get over this and enjoy it purely for her performance and not look at it as a missed opportunity. I'm going to work on that but it's going to be a long haul.

I see that Metacritic has still not added the remaining positive reviews for this film. Not all critic reviews count on Metacritic, but I know there were still a handful that would count and that are still not on there, it's puzzling. I feel like we should all e-mail them directly to put them on to help its score. This one from Tomris Laffly for example. And she and the Playlist are Metacritic approved: theplaylist.net/french-exit-michelle-pfeiffer-nyff-review-20201011/Here is the email for Metacritic: editorial@metacritic.com does anyone else remember the other positive reviews not yet added? Just have to make sure they would count for Metacritic.

According to awardsworthy - It's missing at least 5 reviews above that score.
The Playlist - 83 The Film Stage - 83 Salon - likely 80? Film Threat -70/80 Polygon - 60

Really does not seem fair. Don't the outlets or critics themselves submit them? I hope others email them until they are added.

I'm starting to get pissed, multiple people have e-mailed Metacritic to tell them to add these positive reviews yet they still won't. There is no good reason for them not to. Seems shady.

Yeah, I know! The film is being unfairly skewed by the exclusion of the positive reviews. I'm annoyed how the Guardian's 20 score is pulling the Metascore down, which is not reflective of the general consensus of the film.

Somebody clue me in about Meta Critic and why that is the end all / be all to awards consideration. I've always followed Rotten Tomatoes and thought that was the best indicator of critical reaction. I also like the fact that you can read entire reviews on RT. What am I missing?

I guess Meta Critic is considered "higher class", they are selective when it comes to which critics and outlets they use for their scores. Rotten Tomatoes counts just about everyone under the sun.

Metacritic's scores also feature on a movie's IMDB page.

Press or promo for FE? More likely Henry Rose...ugh.

Yea, 60% of me thinks it's Henry Rose unless the film is screening somewhere else before release or she's doing promo early like she did with Wizard of Lies. I know she likes to do those "on set"/"behind the scenes" interviews after filming has long ended and before the movie comes out. But mostly I think it's for Henry Rose.
