I'm hoping for the best for tonight, but I'm kind of losing faith a bit. I hope I'm wrong. These Letterboxd reactions are scaring me.

You'll be watching it tonight? I know what you mean but I'm going to wait until I see proper reviews for the film. I'm in UK so probably won't see them until tomo morning. Hope you guys that are getting to see it tonight really enjoy it.

I'm hoping for the best for tonight, but I'm kind of losing faith a bit. I hope I'm wrong. These Letterboxd reactions are scaring me. Bad reviews are inevitable for the majority of films tho. Really no film is immune from them in one form or another. Only be concerned with how you feel about the film you’re seeing. You’re the only audience member you need to care about. Worrying about how others are going to like the film won’t make it any more enjoyable whatsoever. And after a year and a half of waiting for this film since first hearing about it, tonight all I care about is enjoying myself!!!!!!! Ha ha I can’t believe the day has come!! I remember booking the ticket and thinking it still felt ages away! Lol Did anyone else log onto the NYFF French exit screening page?? There’s a countdown clock which I’m gonna be watching like a hawk when there’s minutes left lol

I love her description of the writing and the tone. Sounds like it’s very on point with the novel.
After I finish watching this, I’m gonna go back to my mini marathon of Michelle in anticipation for tonight. Watched Dangerous Liaisons and The Fabulous Baker Boys last night and now I’m thinking The Age of Innocence and another title, maybe mother! or Wizard of Lies or Murder on the Orient Express lol

I can't recall ever being this nervous to see one of her films and see the reviews. I hope that review is the start of a big trend. I'll see everyone after the screening!

So far they have cut out at least two funny lines from Frances that were in the book and I'm annoyed lol

Well. Not what I expected. I expected more crazy and more entertainment. I was a bit bored. Certainly could have cut 15 minutes or so. Lots of differences from the book. Really upset they cut out a bunch of hilarious lines that PFEIFFER and Hedges would have nailed. I don't get it.
I did like the score at times, but in some scenes was a little silly and distracting. Direction was...okay? Lucas was fine, but it's such an internal role, so it does him no favors. Pfeiffer was fine, it's her usual accent that we have heard before. I expected something new from her. She is funny and moving when it calls for it. I would not call this anywhere near her career best. I don't think she will get an Oscar nom either.

This was everything I wanted it to be and more. It captured what I loved about the novel so perfectly!! I was amazed at how many shots there were that were just exquisite!! I laughed out loud a NUMBER of times and wept, just wept, like a baby at the scene between her and Hedges in the kitchen leading to the hallway. The cinematography was fantastic. It had antiquated touch that made it feel so literary. Such a rich, rich role and I’m glad she was the one to get it because she was the only one who I feel was worthy of it. Oscar? Hmmm...doubtful. I’ll be stupefied if Michelle doesn’t get a golden globe nomination tho. I’m gonna order another bottle of champagne and watch it again!!

Throwing this out there: Doss anyone wanna do a zoom call to talk about the film and Michelle’s work in it? I know we all only know each other from a distance, so it’s ok if folks are hesitant 🙂 But I thought it might be a fun excursion lol

It will no doubt be a long time before we see the movie over here in the Ireland, plus I avoided reading the novel so that I could go in cold. Therefore, without even so much as a trailer, I'm completely in the dark about her performance.
I've been skimming some non-spoiler reviews and she mostly seems to be getting raves, but I always felt based on the synopsis that this movie would simply prove too divisive to really stake its claim on the awards circuits. A Golden Globe seems like her best bet moving forward, but if the Academy love her and want to throw her a bone, Michelle might get a nomination out of this. The movie sounds a little too whimsical and broad, overall.

So excited to see the film and all the races. The Guardian didn't like and said Michelle 'has always been a luminous movie star rather than a storied character actor'.
I thought the consensus is that she is both to some extent. I would suggest this guy (Benjamin Lee) has only seen Stardust and What Lies Beneath.

I've messaged this Benjamin Lee in a very nice and polite way directing him to 'Where is Kyra' and 'Frankie and Johnny'. Maybe he will listen 🤣
He looks young so maybe he just doesn't know
