Could also be a smart move from SPC to release Valentine's weekend. Hopefully it will build good buzz from festivals.

I don't wanna be the downer here cuz that's just not my brand lol but is that maybe too close to the end of awards in terms of dates/timing? I keep thinking about how much traction Jennifer Aniston got with Cake back in 2014 and then despite all the buzz around her, blew her chances cuz her and the producers held off releasing the film until virtually the last minute. How confident are we that this won't be a similar outcome for French Exit? I know personally, unless something INCREDIBLY high profile gets a screening/release at the last minute (such as Scorsese's Silence back in...2016??), a lot of awards voters will be done and checked out from the process. That's usually what happens with me and others in AFCA. You just get too burned out and already know who you like. So basically I need somebody ease my fears and tell me this isn't gonna be an 11th hour plea for French Exit and Michelle lol Ohhhh I just realized Feb 12 is like a week before the deadline, lol. Hmm, yeah that could backfire, but it's going to build buzz (good hopefully) at NYFF and other festivals ahead of that. Also, Cake was a terrible film and Aniston only really got any traction because she paid for it, it was all empty hype. I hope this film will be much better than that and will have real genuine buzz and support. Aww crap, a week?! Well, hopefully SPC will have their crap together (for a change) when it comes to screeners and send copies/links out to voters in advance so that way they'll have a chance of seeing it before release. Ideally, I'd like to see it show up before Christmas given the film's setting, but who knows anything this year.

I think they must do because the Globes have had nominations for films that have still to get released.

Yea, they do. They're staggered between the different awards groups. Some, like the globes will get them all at once. Mostly though each studio does their own thing. IFC for example emails their entire awards slate, Neon makes a customized book with all the discs inside it that's always pretty slickly designed. Others will just slowly release their titles at different times depending on release date.

Actually, I take back what I said before. Sony Pictures Classics has been good about their screeners recently. I've gotten Call Me By Your Name, The Wife and Elle screener discs sent to me. But I don't remember getting Pain and Glory. Hmmm....

Remember Phantom Thread was released very last minute and got a lot of nominations. It was fresh on voter's minds. Of course it helped the film was great.

That did help and what really helped even more was that never-ending buzz about it being Daniel Day-Lewis's final performance

Oh I forgot about that angle too lol.
I find it odd that we still don't know who is doing the original score for this film by now. Maybe they are just going to use previously made music??

Oh I thought it was a week. Two is better. The Academy had said they were moving away from physical screeners and were only doing digital, but I think they backtracked for this year anyway. I know they do have a special screening site/application just for voters to screen all contenders. The Golden Globes cut off date is in November and they announce their nominees on February 3rd, however, SPC can just screen it for them before the eligibility date no problem.

Hello, the music is by Nick DeWitt (who must be family of Patrick Witt). I listened music by him and maybe he can do it very well. Let's we see.
I asked directly to Azazel Jacobs, through one of his posts, and she respond me. He is kind, Before he asked me, I ssuggested to hire the legendary and master Dave Grsin to do the music. It would have been great, too.

http://instagram.com/p/CEKauqupNuN SPC are already promoting the film. They don't usually post release dates on their Instagram page but have it on their main page as well as their stories.

Apparently NYFF might be working on making all their virtual screenings available nationwide. I'm really not sure SPC would agree to have FE made available that widely since it won't be released until months after the festival though. We'll see.

Interesting. I can't say I loved any of that music on his Soundcloud lol, but interested in hearing what he comes up with for the film. On another note, Ammonite and Nomadland will both be screened online at Toronto, which is a big surprise to me, so maybe Sony will do the same with FE at NYFF.

Just got an email about Ammonite's November release this morning, actually. Hopefully this and the other movie Winslet has coming out will find her competing with herself so that Michelle can sneak on past her lol

Just reading the NYFF descriptions for their lineup again and the only time they really mention a performance in any of the films is for French Exit, again calling her "brilliant". They don't even say anything about Frances McDormand's performance in Nomadland. www.filmlinc.org/nyff2020/sections/main-slate/

Of course w have to see for sure and it might only be available for US residents, who knows: General Public tickets go on sale SEPT. 11TH www.filmlinc.org/nyff58-ticket-information/

Showtimes are up for the NYFF. French Exit premieres October 10 at 730 pm eastern time. Says Drive In screening in Queens. I asked the producer if she knew if it will also be streamed online and she said she wasn’t sure yet. Hopefully more clarity on that soon

Or we think so pending confirmation that it will be streamed..... Count me in. I would LOVE to watch it virtually. Thanks for sharing this.

The NYFF site says stay tuned for Virtual screening schedule. I hope they don't have a hard cap on how many tickets can be sold. The Toronto fest has a hard cap and it seems only members who paid more than $6k were able to get tickets to some films. Yikes.

One other thing I just noticed, the NYFF lists FE as in English but also will screen it in French with English subtitles. That's cool!

NYFF says virtual screenings are only available nationwide in America. Sorry to everyone who isn't in the USA, that really sucks, but hopefully we'll get news on other release dates soon.
