Hmmmm interesting indeed. When does the lineup get announced?

Well. that's something but NY doesn't carry the prestige of Venice, Telluride or Toronto IMO. Maybe it has more to do with safety and travel with US citizens not able to travel to Europe or even Canada now. So weird.

Maybe it has more to do with safety and travel with US citizens not able to travel to Europe or even Canada now. So weird. I don't know, Toronto is doing mostly virtual, Michelle, Lucas and the director could easily have skyped or zoomed in. If it's only doing one festival, which is not as prestige as you said, that kind of concerns me. Or maybe it doesn't really matter this year.

Hmmm...well, I think you’re right. She probably wasn’t meant to say anything. But as long as we keep it in here, I’m sure it’s fine. Interesting. That is a good film fest to show at. Although it isn’t Venice or Toronto, it’s stature gets higher every year. I would also love to see the film play at AFI and Deauville film fests...if that’s even possible lol Have you heard of any AFI plans for this years festival?

Not FE related but Valerie Mahaffey has joined the cast of David's new show Big Sky.

They call Michelle's performance "brilliant" and a "tour e force". I mean, I don't expect them to say anything else but good things but still exciting.

And the festival director says it's a "career best performance" from her.

Exciting stuff but let's try and not build our hopes up. Can't wait until we see some footage or a trailer.

Loving this!! Film at Lincoln Center describes “French Exit” as a “rare American film of genuine eccentricity” and that features a “bewitching” and “brilliant performance of stylish severity” by Pfeiffer. “Jacobs is one of the most distinctive voices in American cinema, and it’s a thrill to see him working with new registers and tones in his most ambitious film yet,” Dennis Lim, New York Film Festival director of programming, said in a statement. “It’s rare to encounter a film so wholly surprising. Moment to moment, ‘French Exit’ is a destabilizing delight, as strange and dark as it is playful, thanks in no small part to Michelle Pfeiffer’s career-best performance.” www.thewrap.com/azazel-jacobs-french-exit-with-michelle-pfeiffer-lucas-hedges-set-as-new-york-film-festival-closing-night-movie/

I know. It's always a toss up who does and who doesn't give access. Sometimes I'll get a press release for something coming out and on a whim I'll email and get a response: "Oh sure! Here's the film and some stills to run with your review! Need anything else?" Other times it's like: "we'll put you on a list, what kind of piece are you gonna write, are you part of a critics' group, can you stick to the embargo?"
On a similar-ish note, I got an email yesterday from a publicist saying they're wanting to screen Unhinged in a theater for press and are wanting to know if we're ready to go back into a theater setting again if it's press only and masks, gloves, social distancing are involved. Most of our critics' group said no. Then this morning, ANOTHER email from a different PR firm asking the same thing: how we're feeling about it, are we ready. Again, we said no. But gosh, they're really pushing this.

But yes you're right, it's silly to complain about anything right now when we have this news today!! I was hoping it would make this festival. I hope it goes to Deauville and AFI Film Fest as well, I really do!!

I am excited! Landing the closing slot is impressive and the buzz about her performance has lifted my pandemic blues. Hope it's as good as it sounds and Michelle will do some serious press for this - virtual, in person, whatever.
So we should be getting reviews on October 11 or the morning after, right?

Also, The Film Stage said SPC will release the film later this year, so maybe still December as originally planned? Trailer should be coming soon too I would think

I'm so excited for this!! I'm honestly not even hoping for an Oscar win at the moment, I just want her to be nominated again. Excellent reviews won't cut it this time for me. I want every pundit to predict her and I want a nomination!

Still curious as to how this will be released in cinemas with the ongoing pandemic? I wonder if SPC could make a deal with Apple or a streaming service and release the film for a limited amount of time before moving to a streaming service? Looks like Michelle and Lucas will be in attendance for the NYFF which is good.
