Right?! I mean for those of us who have already read the book, I don’t think I would be afraid of anything being spoiled lol

SPC just gave The Father a November release date, perfect for awards season. Ugh. I was hoping FE would be November, but I doubt it now. Hopefully October then, but I'm fearing a September date is gonna happen.

The release date they have given to The Father is the one I was hoping they'd give to FE. There was links of a September release and a December release. Maybe it will be 1 of them.

I'd rather December than September. Is the book not set around Christmas time anyway? Would make more sense.

Hilda Rasula is doing the film editing. Her work include Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, Damnation, Sorry for Your Loss. Strange cos Darrin Navarro was on the set. Unless they are both editing and he's not credited yet.

Unless they are both editing and he's not credited yet. That is a surprise. I'm curious to see who will do the original score, hopefully someone great but given the no names all over the crew so far, I'm not holding my breath.

It will be interesting to see if there are ANY fall film festivals this year due to the virus. It's getting pretty bad.

It is another flu, they change the name and the big pharmaceutical industries win billions again. They buy the OMS and manipulate governments. They want fearful people and to infantile people.

Sweet! So a November/December time frame, maybe. Plenty of time to generate some hype at Toronto and New York FF

End of year sounds like December to me, limited then maybe wide in January 2021? But, with everything going on, I'll wait for official word from SPC, because things can change. Festivals might not even be taking place.

And honestly, after thinking about it, I'd probably prefer a September release to December, so they have time to build buzz, if we're expecting any wards traction for Pfeiffer. December is way late and they'd be relying on voters watching screeners. Also, if festivals are going to take place in September, would they really take this film to those and hold it all the way until December? Seems odd to me.

I think it's going to be December but we should wait for official confirmation. I'll be happy with a December release. Hopefully the fall festivals go ahead as I'm sure this would drop at Toronto.

I feel that traction builds with festival screenings where buzz is really generated, whereas a film released in September can sometimes peak in terms of buzz. Those movies carry the burden of trying to sustain whatever buzz they get as studios save their heavy hitters for closer to December.
Judy was the exception this year, at least where Best Actress was concerned but as somewhere here said, it wasn’t the strongest year in that category in 2019. I’m not sure how stiff the competition looks for 2020.

That would be a huge downer for her chances. But maybe SPC doesn't see this as an awards contender anyway, and will give it the same treatment as Stan & Ollie, a good film that got good reviews that was released on Christmas day without doing TIFF or Telluride or Venice and got no awards attention. At the end of the day, I just want it to be good and have people actually go see it in theaters.

Valli O'Reilly actually replied to my question, Lol. She just said they are aiming for December and it will be at most festivals.

Good to know it's playing at the festivals. I've tried to ask her before about working with Michelle again on Turn of Mind but she's never replied.

Oooooo if they are accepted in multiple movie festivals that means its good hopefully and the studio are confident in it!!

I'd lean toward a December release over September because of the reasons BabyFacedAssassin mentioned.
We don't how this virus will play out but even if they cancel the fall festivals, won't they send screeners to the critics anyway to generate awards buzz? We may not get a red carpet moment but at least the film could get an awards push, assuming it's good enough.
They're shutting down productions worldwide so I doubt we will see her act in a new film anytime soon.
Disturbing times.

Off-topic but sorta related. Sony Pictures Classics offered us Austin critics a chance to view a screener for The Burnt Orange Heresy in lieu of attending Thursday’s press screening. Cut to technical issues preventing me from accessing the screener in any way even after changing my password. I keep on getting redirected to the main site page 😩
Currently, I’m being passed along between folks at the studio via email. This isn’t surprising given how cheap they are with their screeners. They’re one of the few studios who don’t send out (at least not to our group) physical screeners and their digital ones often have problems such as the one I’m experiencing. They’d better get it together before December comes around...I want everyone in the critics voting community to have a chance to see French Exit.
And that’s my rant/vent. Over and out lol

Over and out lol Well that's discouraging, Lol. I was looking at the film release calendar and early December is barren right now. That would be the best time to release this. December 4th there are none scheduled right now and only one on December 11th. December 18th is stacked with Dune, Westside Story and Coming 2 America. The 23rd has two big budget family films and Christmas Day has a highly anticipated Tom Hanks film and a couple of others.
