LA went with Metcalf, with Blige as runner-up.
Pfeiffer was in the conversation, though, see these tweets:

Well, f*ck...I thought she had a real shot At least she was being discussed, that's better than nothing. And I think that tweet about "Pfeiffer fanatics" from Glenn Whipp was directed at me, since I tweeted FYC messages at them yesterday, Lol.

It's not going to be her year but hopefully that award winning role is not far away.

LA went with Metcalf, with Blige as runner-up. Pfeiffer was in the conversation, though, see these tweets: Really not shocking./ they would not even give her a win for Oleander when she had huge reviews from critics. MP has had a great year without these awards but yes they would be nice

Sometimes critics follow the waves and they aren't originals. Nobody can say that it's not her year, because she is excelent in all the work I have seen this year. It's only that the wave is supporting another actresses but I think that Michelle deserves a nomination, clearly. Crossed fingers to Golden Globes and Sag. In 2016 they gave the main awards to 'Moonlight' and 'La La Land' and I think that both of them aren't great movies: 'Moonlight' it's a bad 'Brokeback Mountain' (and the Oscars failed to give the award to that masterul movie, what a shame) and 'La La Land' it's well done but nothing original, creative or innovative and the Oscar for best actress to Emma Stone... well... without words... Michelle would have been fantastic in that role but Stone... Isabelle Huppert was far better than Stone... for that reasons I never took very seriously the Oscars... I suspect that these year are much better, much better movies... I suspect that 'The Shape of Water' and 'Call Me By Your Name' are masterpieces. Scott Feinberg doesn't love very much our Michelle, I suspect. I don't know the reason. Maybe it's personal. In these article, www.etonline.com/oscar-predictions-round-1-will-it-be-another-controversial-year-academy-awards-91914 Michelle appears as a possible nomination

-New York Film Critics Online announce their winners, December 10th.
-Golden Globe nominations, December 11th.
-Screen Actors Guild nominations, December 13th.

Here are the first FYC ads for 'mother!', this was sent to SAG members. And look, they only used critics quotes singling out Lawrence and none of the great one that Pfeiffer received. Shocking.

They are just more invested in Hong Chau, I guess, but even she isn't getting any awads so far, Lol. This lady who interviewed Pfeiffer during the 'Murder' press tour is an HFPA member (Golden Globes) I really hope she and her fellow voters nominate her, at least for Wizard of Lies. http://instagram.com/p/BbUI-4snjgy

All Michelle has to do is invite the HFPA to lunch at Four Seasons and she's a shoo-in. LOL
Kidding, sort of....

Pfeiffer was in the conversation, though, see these tweets: Omg so close yet so far then? did she come in 3rd place?? their winners are so basic where are the gutsy surprises? I'm just glad that she's in the conversation and got a few votes. LA critics are a tough crowd! And I agree, she probably would've won something if Where is Kyra was also released this year. They like voting for actresses with multiple great performances in a given year.

Not to mention more diverse in terms of character...it seems that the two frontrunners in that category (Metcalfe and Janney) r nominated for playing mothers who r seen n depicted solely as mothers...Chau n Michelle's characters r actually well-formed, interesting characters who aren't defined by their parental status. Even tho Michelle's character is a mother, her narrative doesn't revolve around that fact, she is her own well-written character. Having both those actresses nominated would show that there is more to the illustration of a strong female character beyond just being a mother.

Just finished Lady Bird. Beautiful movie! Metcalfe is powerful in it n I can see why ppl r taken by her performance. Chau is still my personal runner up to Michelle tho!

Back from the Phantom Thread press screening. Manville is excellent n likewise makes my long list!! However, her lack of an Oscar moment is too true. She's a bit like Holly Hunter in The Firm. For those who don't know, Hunter's performance in that film was only around 10 minutes long with no one scene of her's last more than a few moments, yet she got a nomination. Same case here. Great work, but her character never lingers long enough at any one time. She's only around in short spurts. Superb film overall!!

Back from the Phantom Thread press screening. Manville is excellent n likewise makes my long list!! Superb film overall!! Is it as weird as others say it is? I'm not a huge DDL fan, he's very overrated and hammy most of the time. Is this different for him? I heard Manville is great but not much of a role, similar to Pfeiffer in mother!. Krieps is getting raves and sounds like a huge find.

I edited what I previously posted while u were typing i think lol but yea, Manville is great!! Although, her role has nowhere near the kind of standout moments that Michelle's does...she's not her competition by a long-shot
I LOVE DDL n am so sad that he's leaving acting behind. I for one hope he pulls a Fonda and eventually comes back cuz he's always interesting to watch IMO. Here, he takes a character who, as written, certainly could be outrageous and hammy and he finds his essence and brings it to the surface which is a marvel since u wouldn't think this character had one to begin with LOL
Krieps is amazing!! She is a find!! The way she carried the film alongside such an accomplished actor n the way she projected her character's journey was flat out revelatory.
The film isn't as weird as u would think although it does have a sort of macabre air about it toward the end; especially in the final several minutes. But it's stunning, elegant and VERY hypnotic. One of my favorites this year I think!!

Here are a few things a Golden Globes voter ( twitter.com/anamariabahiana ) said about Pfeiffer this year: "(The Wizard of Lies) Is sensational. Directed by Barry Levinson. Good to see de Niro doing good thing-and Michelle Pfeiffer as well." Here is what someone Tweeted at her about 'mother!': "One thing is for sure, Michelle Pfeiffer deserves to be remembered at the awards. OK, I'm a fan, but ..." And here is her reply: "for sure but here the people hated it so much that it could harm her chances." So it sounds like her fellow Golden Globes voters really hated 'mother!'. Probably has a better chance to be nominated for WoL then, even though they put all of the Supporting Actresses in one category (TV series Drama and Comedy, TV Movie and TV Limited Series) so that makes it much tougher.

There is also a small chance she could be nominated in the lead category for WOL. U never know how they’ll change things up n surprise ppl...they have a history of doing that. It’s for that reason that a nom from them for mother! wouldn’t surprise me at all

I've been following the news and it's a real shame she ran out of momentum (or studios ran out of interest). This might be an unpopular opinion here, but I never really felt her part in mother! was enough to propel her forward.
Pfeiffer is the life and soul of that film. She plays the part to the hilt and then some... when she leaves the movie dies a death. However, the character is not all that interesting to me and is frankly a bit of a blank slate. It's just not enough to snag that nomination, simply being a little too detatched and existential for voters.
So frustrating.

Gotta say I disagree...the character is so rich and full of life under the surface. The brilliance of Michelle's work is how she doles out her character's backstory in the slightest, yet most magnetic of ways. You could so easily picture this woman as a real person outside of Aronofsky's realm. Michelle brings her to life to the point where it's possible to get a sense of her and the life she lived before coming to the house. That's all Michelle..without her talent and her analysis of the character, those r just abstract lines of dialogue.

I think that my dream would be that Michelle wis Oscar to best supporting actress and Sally Hawkins wins best actress for 'The Shape of Water'. Hawkins is one of my top five beloved actresses.
If Michelle is not nominated it well be unfair. Many times, I don't see Oscars and Golden Globes but this year I think I will do an exception, for 'The Shape of Water' and 'Call Me By Your Name'.
Manville is an excelent actress, too.
