Very good review babyfacedassassin24. I've written some movie reviews myself and like to read reviews by other critics, not only to see what the they have to say, but also how they say it and I have to say this is a really well written review. Btw, I'm going to see the movie tonight and am really excited. Thanks!! I needed to hear that especially cuz when I'm overworked I start to feel like my stuff reads like I'm rushing to get it done rather than exploring the movie I'm writing bout!! How bout u?? Have u covered any Michelle movies? I saw the movie again last night...small audience but it was a midnight showing at a theater slightly outside the city. I've gotta say I enjoyed it more the second time around. I think maybe cuz I knew what the flaws would be going into it, it didn't disappoint cuz I wasn't holding it to such a high standard as I was the first time. As a result, I was able to just enjoy everything else that DID work...also loved Michelle's moment more this time around even if her lines (n most everyone else's needed more work) Have got a list of friends lined up that I will be taking w me to watch it in the coming weeks!!

Tracking at 27.8m for it's opening weekend. Pretty good. Yes, higher than predicted and with a meh 59% on RT and a B CinemaScore. Maybe what surprises me the most is there is still a sizable market for a film like this. On that point alone, I’m hoping it turns a tidy profit so that larger scale films aren’t limited to comic book heroes and action genres. Too bad they didn’t tweak the script a bit more - this might have been an Awards contender considering the talent involved. As long as this ends up w a higher critical rating than Daddy's Home 3, I'll be fine. I mean it's a problematic script, but if critics gravitate toward that lame-looking (n grossly overpriced) comedy over this, I'll be sooooooo bummed lol

Aww thanks my friend!! Hoping u enjoy it...n I'm so so happy for u/seething w jealousy that u will get to see one of the special 70mm screenings of it!! It's going to be stunning!!

I saw it on the opening day and really liked it. I thought it was slow at times, however, it was interesting overall. And Michelle was great. Yes! She´s the star of the film and carries the emotional weight throughout the climax and the end. Hats off to her. Again (as in Cheri), no vanity, no pretensions, it was just her and her physical `flaws´ giving it all. I wish she had had the chance to have a similar moment in TWoL or mother!
And sorry if I sound like an idiot, but I prefer this new adaptation to the snoozefest made by Lumet in the seventies.

Sadly, the film was outdone by Daddy's Home 2 ($30 million), debuting at No.3 with roughly $28.2 million. She hasn't had a No. 1 since New Year's Eve. At least we are almost garunteed a Pfeiffer debut at No.1 with Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Still a very good opening and not much in it. Hopefully this film performs will over thanksgiving. Ant-Man and the Wasp will probably be Pfeiffer's highest opening weekend film.

Nice!! I'm very happy w the opening numbers...I was unsure of just how much this kind of property would be received by current audiences, but this shows that at least some ppl were definitely interested. Hoping this continues n ends up making a nice little profit.

The original was TERRIBLE and awfully boring to me. I found this new one on the slow side as well, but not nearly as bad as the Lumet, which might be in the top 10 most overrated films, ever.

Well, I wish it had beat Daddy's Home - another formulaic comedy that brings them to the multi-plexis for reasons I cannot fathom - but $28.2M was much higher than many predicted. So I think there is an audience for this film. I just wish the reviews had been better. It should do well throughout the Thanksgiving Day weekend but I bet it will top out at around $75M here.

My main problem with Daddy's Home 2 is...Mel Gibson. He deserves chance after chance after what he's said and done ? I don't think so. He's disgusting. Hollywood is a messed up place.

Finally saw this and it was very enjoyable.
Pros
Pfeiffer was fab of course and a scene stealer in the final 15/20 mins
Branagh was good and this will definitely the Kenneth Branagh show
Patrick Doyle - Loved his score
Cinematography - Beautifully shot film
Cons
Too much Josh Gad for my liking and not enough Dame Judi.
There was scenes from the original version which seem to have been left out which I would of liked to have seen like Mrs Hubbard annoying all the other passengers at the beginning.
Some of the film does tend to drag on in places

I saw it Saturday. I thought it was only ok. I agree it is very slow and drags a bit but definitely better than the original, I'm shocked you guys admitted its boring. Michelle rocked as expected but I wanted more of her. This year was just a warm up of what's to come I hope. Just my opinion this film didn't feel that like a list cast they could have done better. And expanded a few people roles. Glad it's killing at the box office.

Well, the best laid plans often go awry.
I saw it last night only because my 13 yo son wanted to see it with his parents. A once in a lifetime seismic event. So I caved. Not sure if I will catch it again in 70mm when I get to LA or not. Oh well.... at least we saw it on a huge screen with Dolby Surround Sound. And my son liked it! I was shocked.
The Good News
Great cinematography, costumes, set design and period flavor Loved Patrick Murphy's musical score. Some individual scenes really worked. I didn't find KB as annoying as I thought I would, although he was clearly infatuated with himself as Poirot. The tragic backstory still holds up. It got to me.
The Not So Good News
The pacing was erratic. Painfully slow at times, then jump-started, only to lag again. This seems to be a common reaction to the film. While the cast was all aces, few of them possess a fraction of the star wattage and charisma that made Connery, Bacall, Bergman, Finney and Redgrave film icons. Judi D was wasted as were Cruz, Dafoe and O Coleman. I would have given each of them a few more moments to register and cut the opening prologue down.
La Pfeiffer Michelle is the one exception who does have the beauty and magnetism that made Bacall and Bergman huge stars. She owned every scene she was in. I did want more close-ups though - her introductory sequence, a long tracking shot from outside the train , begged for a few close-ups and more intimacy. It lacked the impact it should have had through no fault of hers whatsoever. I wanted to see her make Poriot squirm a bit more. She was absolutely stunning in the last 15 - 20 minutes. I almost felt bad for her fellow actors as all they had to do was sit there while she took command.
All in all, a mixed review but I am glad she took the part. She can still out act just about anybody on the big screen.

The movie hasn't showing in where I live yet (Hong Kong), so I took an hour train to China especially for this today and I watched it two times in a row.
The movie is slow but also seems too little time to tell a long story, each character share a fair amount of screen time although not every actors can deliver the magic, Michelle has some really great moments though and a very touching one.
Not a masterpiece but also not a bad movie.

Haha, I took a few mins nap during Johnny's conversation with Branagh during the second time. Audiences love it in general I think but didn't read any decent critics review so far, we don't have a huge group of critics here.

It's a glossy , fun, ensemble remake, easy old school entertainment, Family viewing . I didn't love the film , but liked parts of it . I think Brannagh should have stuck to directing and had another poirot to be honest, he lacked depth, charisma and charm, i found him rather annoying in parts, the rest of the cast did a great job though . It got a good review on the BBC here calling it a 'variety show if stars.

I read on twitter someone mentioned that there's no tear falling out from Michelle's eyes in an emotional scene, I kinda find that interesting, because I also aware that Michelle rarely show tears during many of her break down scenes in her past movies as well, it's not like she couldn't make it (She did it terribly good in 'The Deep End of The Ocean", also in 'White Oleander' in a very subtle way), but when you look at 'i am sam', 'The Story of Us'...her emotion seems really out there but also kinda hold back at the same time, anyone share the same thought?

I read the lack of tears as her being empty at that moment. All pretenses has dropped and she literally has no tears left. I don't know... it just seemed like she was beyond tears. But then I'm not an actor.

I noticed there was no falling tears either. I think I noticed that the second time around. The third time I saw the movie I tried to look for tears n I thought I saw a couple in her eyes but she keep shutting her eyes or lowering her head so it was hard to tell. There is also the thought that who knows how many takes of that scene they did...a person only has so many tears in them at any one given time. It's possible she was all cried out in the take they ended up using.

I did not even notice this when I saw the movie. I remember tears in The Age of Innocence, Frankie and Johnny, Married to the mob, Batman. It is interesting since crying on cue like that has to be one of the hardest things for an actor and she has done it before but also maybe it has to do if Mich personally connects to the person she is playing and the emotion of the story, like it just might be easier for her to cry for some roles? +Up Close and Personal, People Like Us...n I think The Family?? Lol

I haven't read or seen Death on the Nile, but there are roles for three older actresses it looks like. I bet Judi Dench will play one of them.
