In a pre-Sundance Film Festival move, UK-based media fund manager Great Point Media is launching a US theatrical distribution arm with plans to release eight to 12 titles per year. The company unveiled the plans Friday, saying that it has already assembled a full slate for 2018, with $10 million in P&A committed to date. The first release will come in March with “Submission,” writer-director Richard Levine’s adaptation of Francine Prose’s novel “Blue Angel,” starring Stanley Tucci and Kyra Sedgwick. It will open in New York on March 2 and will expand to multiple major markets on March 9. Great Point Media’s distribution slate includes: Judy Greer’s directorial debut, “A Happening of Monumental Proportions,” starring Allison Janney, Jennifer Garner, Katie Holmes, and Common; “Measure of a Man,” a coming-of-age story directed by Jim Loach and starring Blake Cooper, Donald Sutherland, Luke Wilson, and Judy Greer; and Andrew Dosunmu’s drama “Where Is Kyra?” starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kiefer Sutherland.“At a time of great change in the market, we’re proud to be giving filmgoers the chance to experience exceptional independent films in some of the best theatres around the U.S.,” GPM co-founder Robert Halmi said.

Thanks, Bond! So they are co-distributing with Paladin then? Must be, Mark Urman, who they cite in the article as a partner, is head of Paladin Film.
I wonder if that image is a still or a set picture? All the reviews mentioned how dark it is throughout the film and that image is anything but dark. And it doesn’t really match the other stills we’ve seen.

Perhaps they've tinkered with it in post production?
At least this thing is properly building some momentum. I don't expect it to be a hit or even critical darling but at least it's more light shining on Michelle. Perhaps Great Point Media will handle UK distribution?

I seem to remember a shot of Kieffer and Michelle behind-the-scenes, in costume, smiling and laughing between set-ups. Those pics were taken in the daytime so I'm guessing there r a handful of daytime scenes. Part of Kyra's story involves her going to the bank so I guess she would be doing that in the daytime. Maybe Doug is taking her out for a drink after such a trip?? LOL

I don't think the April release date was ever officially confirmed, but we should start hearing more substantial news about this soon. Boy, we've had a long wait for it.

Indiewire are still saying a spring release date. If April 6 was correct, that's not bad, though I still think it's more suited for fall. It's good counter programming. Not much else is being released on that day, last I looked. Pfeiffer has the critics on her side with this one, I think she will get some critics awards.

But Pfeiffer-Pfan could be right, they might have changed it up after reading reviews?

on facebook they say it opens MARCH 30 Easter weekend I wonder why this was not included in the press release? It would have been helpful, a small film like this needs as much promotion and information out there as possible. Also, the Oscars are March 4th, I think? Maybe they'll get her to present at the ceremony to help promote the film.

I'm encouraged when I read about a new distribution company that will give small independent films a chance to be seen. When I continue to see junk like Jumanji and franchise blockbusters atop the box-office charts week after week it gets on my last nerve. So at the very least, Kyra will get a theatrical run and her performance will be eligible for awards consideration. True - a release date later in the year would be better than March, but at least this film will get a proper theatrical run and not go straight to streaming or DVD release. Bravo!

Paladin's facebook description
Paladin is proud to be partnering with Great Point Media on the forthcoming releases of Richard Levine's SUBMISSION, opening March 2nd and starring Stanley Tucci and Kyra Sedgwick in a provocative adaptation of Francine Prose's acclaimed novel, "Blue Angel," about sexual harassment. Up next, the stunning "WHERE IS KYRA?," from Killer Films, starring Michelle Pfeiffer (in a remarkable change-of-pace performance) and Kiefer Sutherland, opening on March 30th. Also be on the lookout for Theresa Rebeck's rowdy comedy TROUBLE, starring Anjelica Huston and Bill Pullman; Timothy McNeil's bittersweet romance, ANYTHING, starring John Carroll Lynch, Matt Bomer, and Maura Tierney; Bill Macy's delightful KRYSTAL, starring Rosario Dawson, Nick Robinson, Kathy Bates, Bill Macy, and Felicity Huffman; and Jaron Albertin's haunting debut feature, WEIGHTLESS, starring Alessandro Nivola, Julianne Nicholson, and Johnny Knoxville. What a way to ring in 2018!

Publicity n Advertising?? $10 million is pretty good for such a small company that is just starting to distribute. I hope they allocate most of that to Where is Kyra?, Lol. This was one thing I was most worried about, that they wouldn'thave the resources to properly promote the film.

It will be such a pleasure as a pfan to see her in "Where is Kyra?"again with a leader role of a movie, as we don't see her since her great Léa deLonval in "Chéri". So good to know the distributors could properly promote this indie movie and that it gets realesed end or March or begging of April. Hope soon we can watch the first teaser!! I really think this movie will be loved by all Pfeiffer Fans, as is the style of movies we all wanted to see her, out of Hollywood style, in a realistic role of a normal person, with a more risky director behind and hopefully with an special look in the images. First critics consider the images are too much dark, maybe they have decide to change that, who knows, but i am sure we will enjoy with this new Michelle Pfeiffer performance!

I have wanted her to do a dark indie drama for a long time. She has the chops and I hope she does more, if given the opportunity.

Okay, so if March 30th is the date for Where is Kyra?, it now faces one less competitor. The Weinstein Company just pulled "Mary Magdalene" from their release schedule, that was set for March 30th. The other films opening on that day are: God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness, which I'm sure will do big numbers, these religious films always do. Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One", a comedy called "Finding Your Feet", "Lean on Pete", which is about a horse, I think, and a drama titled "Acrimony", which is a Tyler Perry film and that will do big numbers, because people love his films, for whatever reason.
So Where is Kyra? could be a nice counter programming option in limited release for the arthouse crowds. I just hope they promote it enough.
