Thought would give this it's own thread. I don't know if it's even happening but it gives us something new to talk about. I think I've found out it's based on a book. www.thebookseller.com/rights/orion-fiction-pre-empts-gloriously-funny-debut-novel-from-yablonSylvia’s Second Act is the story of 63-year-old Sylvia, whose life is turned upside-down by her cheating, money-swindling husband and instead of her falling apart, grabs life with both hands, moves to New York City and sets out to follow all her long-held dreams with her best friend, 77-year-old Evie, by her side.

My initial thought is Diane Keaton for Evie. These two have being trying to work together for a while.

It's not being published for another year - April 2024, so I don't see this happening this year.

Made Up Stories were pretty quick with optioning the rights to the novel. Interested to see who they have set as director and who will be adapting the screenplay.

If they age down the best friend character, I’d like either Moore or Bening for the role.

A full description of the novel:
When 63-year-old Sylvia finds her husband in bed with their Boca retirement community floozy, she feels the emotions you'd expect (shock, fury), but once she collapses in a booth at a bar late that night with her best friend, the glamorous older widow Evie, Sylvia allows herself to admit some things to she hates Boca. It's for old people, and she doesn't feel old. While she's beyond angry with her husband, she acknowledges that she hasn't exactly been the best partner of late either, and that their relationship may have run its course. Sylvia wants to travel and have adventures. She sacrificed her own career potential to raise a daughter and keep house-and she doesn't regret it, she just also wants more for herself.
Sylvia decides it isn't too late to go and get the life she wants. She enlists Eve to come along with, and the two flee Boca for Manhattan.
What she doesn't anticipate is how unsupportive her daughter and husband are of her plan. Isabel is convinced her mother's "life of leisure" up to this point makes her "entirely ill-suited" for the work force, and she must "just make it work with Dad." Worse, her husband reveals he's lost their life savings, and he cuts off her credit card to boot.
But Sylvia and Evie are scrappy and determined, unopposed to pawning jewelry, roughing it at a NYC youth hostel and freshening up in a Starbucks bathroom along the way. Manhattan, careers, romance, sex, fun-their entire second acts are stretched out in front of them, beckoning them. It's their time.

Yeah I think we need a good screenwriter and director. I wouldn't be surprised if we never heard anything else about this. Probably be another Hunchback of Neiman Marcus or Whatever Makes You Happy where her name is initially mentioned but doesn't come to anything.

This did remind me of Hunchback/Neiman a bit, which I never read cuz I have no interest in reading an entire novel written in verse, quite frankly. Lol
This one sounds like it has more possibility tho. But, yea, definitely a strong writer and director

Yeah, this one sounds like pure fluff. Not too unlike the Jessica Lange/Shirley MacLaine film WILD OATS from 2016.
I'm not opposed to Michelle doing fluff pieces from time to time (after all, I think I'm the only fan on the planet of I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN), but not if she has slowed her acting work to a crawl once more.

Yeah, I also just assumed this would be a movie but I guess they could develop this in to a TV series. If it was a TV series, I could see them doing 30 min episodes to stretch it out longer.

I assume it's a limited series since Bruna Papandrea focuses on TV more, but who knows. If it's an HBO comedy, a la Hacks, this should definitely resonate and at least get Emmy and GG noms. And yes, I'm constantly thinking of her being acknowledged and awarded. She deserves it.

From the description of the novel, it sounds like Grace and Frankie meets Sex and the City.

I'm not sure the premise of the novel is one that would be interesting enough to last an entire series. It sounds cute, and could be somewhat inspiring. But it also sounds more fluffy than anything else. It could easily wear out its welcome midway through. But who knows?

I guess if they got a good showrunner and decent writers they could make it in to a good show. Only thing with Michelle and TV is she doesn't like working with different directors on a project.

I just want it to be good and be a hit. I'm tired of the flops (which are not her fault).

Maybe?? I guess it depends on whether or not they’ve already got a final draft/shooting script ready.

From the description of the novel, it sounds like Grace and Frankie meets Sex and the City. I feel like they saw my comment cos Michelle is going to be in this (kidding of course). They have that tagline on the back of the book. I wonder if this could end up being announced as her next project? I do wonder if it would be a film or made in to a TV series now.

Nothing new but the book is out in just over a month and they have an interview coming up with Hillary. Might be more coming up with the author and might give some indication if the novel has been adapted for the screen.

I will not be reading this book. Made the mistake of reading Turn of Mind thinking it would be Michelle's next film. Nope, not repeating that unfortunate pattern until see her on set. If ever...

The author is now on Instagram and already following Made Up Stories. No Michelle follow yet.
Was also looking at Made Up Stories recent followers and saw Aline Brosh McKenna is now following them and Bruna Papandrea. Aline has written movies like The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, We Bought a Zoo and wrote and directed last year's Your Place or Mine with Reese. This source material sounds like it could be right up that writers street. I'm probably putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5.
We don't even know if this is even still happening but if it is I'm thinking it could be a movie now and shoot before Michelle commits to the Yellowstone spinoff.

That kind of timeline sounds like it would work well. If anything, the spinoff probably won’t start until the fall, but who knows?
I wish we knew if Wild Four ‘o Clocks was still going to happen

I wish Wild Four O'Clocks was still happening but sadly I think that is another Michelle movie which will never see the light of day.
