I'm working on a tribute piece on the blog I write for to celebrate Michelle's career and I wanted to highlight some of the performances she gave that were Oscar-worthy but which didn't get the love they deserved. I'm compiling this list based on positive notices she got for performances from either other awards bodies, reviews and/or the public. I wanted to start a poll to get an opinion for the users here to see which of her best turns were ignored by the academy. Lemme know what you all think!

I went with F&J (a really great performance that was marred by people saying she was too pretty for the role), Age of Innocence, Oleander(one of the worst snubs ever) and mother! (a truly weak year for that category, if the film had not been as controversial, I think she would have gotten in).

I'd of loved to see her get a nomination for Married to the Mob. Great performance. Oleander was also one of her biggest snubs.

-Married to the Mob (although that's a very competitive year: Streep, Jodie Foster, Sigourney Weaver, Melanie Griffith, and Glenn Close) -Frankie and Johnny -White Oleander (should've taken Queen Latifa's spot) -Cheri (should'be taken Helen Mirren's spot) -Where is Kyra

Really think Mich has only been snubbed 2times: The Age of innocence and White Oleander she wasnt even in the race for Cheri or WiK or Scarface or most of these others even if she was very good

Here are my choices -
Married To The Mob because it was her first major leading role, she carried the film effortlessly, she nailed the Jersey accent and she was equally adept at comedic timing and physical comedy. Michelle and Jonathan Demme were a match made in cinematic heaven.
Batman Returns. If the Academy weren't so limited in their thinking, they would have acknowledged the layer upon layer of flawed humanity that Michelle poured into the split Selina / Catwoman character. An unforgettable performance.
Frankie & Johnny. Agree this was one her richest emotional performances. All of the complaints about her being too pretty were sour grapes because beauty is no guarantee against being hurt or abused. She conveyed the deep seated pattern of helplessness, shame and fear that many people bring with them to each new romantic opportunity. There wasn't a false note anywhere to be found.
White Oleander - Ingrid was a much richer character in the book but Michelle overcame the script limitations and made her even scarier on film. I keep hearing all these actors talk about "gravitas" lately - well, take at look at this performance if you want to understand what that word really means.
Where Is Kyra - By far, the most experimental and risky film she has done and I think she gave a brilliant performance. Too bad the offbeat visual style, subject matter and slow pacing turned-off a lot of critics.

Married to the Mob, Frankie and Johnny, Batman Returns, The Age of Innocence, White Oleander & Mother.
I Am Sam & Cheri are up there with my least favourite performances.

Gosh, she's really given a lot of underrated performances, hasn't she? Depressing.
