Would be nice if she was asked while promoting Henry Rose what she is working on next. Hopefully she has something lined up for the summer. I want a drama or a limited series. Do these interviewers EVER ask her that question? Lol, it's so frustrating. Only time I remember someone asking was during that Baker Boys reunion interview. I know!! Ugh, of all the times to ask that question lol

The only way we could possibly get an answer on that is if someone interviewing her about Henry Rose asks her whether or not she plans on retiring to run her business and she (IDEALLY) comes back with an answer like: "Oh not at all! In fact I'm going back to work this summer...or this fall, etc." I would love for that to happen

If true, then that would quite possibly mean she couldn't do promo for M2, depends where they film, etc. Found more on the novel here from GoodReads and you can also see user reviews of the novel. I'm excited if this is indeed her next project: www.goodreads.com/book/show/36300687-french-exit

On Today she said it's not 100%, but she said it in a way that suggested it almost is a go for her!! Love this, favorite part of the interview tbh ha ha...depending on the scale of the production, I can see her finishing in time for Maleficent 2 promo...

It might have to do with finding financing for the film, like they aren't quite there yet.

Well, The Sisters Brothers, the film adaptation of French Exit author's other novel came out last fall and managed to get a SMALL amount of critical acclaim...I'm guessing that might've played a part in getting this project together. Hopefully, it's enough to carry it to getting it fully financed.

Sadly, 'The Sisters Brothers' was a box office bomb, so that may not help things.
I would just love to see her attached to a new project. Anything!!

Oh wow that sounds perfect for her -- I also read the character she would play is very mean -- Michelle is perfect for this and if it does not happen now I shall be crushed

Oh what exciting news to come home to after a crap day at work. At least the question was asked and she gave us something to pin our hopes on. Please let this happen and have a decent director and distributor. Another leading role is great news.

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but I was just thinking this sounds perfect for Wes Anderson, maybe Paul Thomas Anderson? Jane Campion, too.

Yea, but acclaim carries its own kind of cache within the industry; not as much as money-making hits, but just enough to get further projects made. How do you think someone like say, Woody Allen, was able to work for decades despite only a handful of bona fide "hits"?
The greater takeaway from this is that Michelle is open to reading material and is willing to work in spite of Henry Rose, which is something I know some of us were wondering about when we heard about her new business. If this doesn't come to be, we can at least feel confident that it isn't because of the line or a lack of interest on her part and that something else will come her way that she'll say yes to.

Would love to see Michelle work with a female director. Jane Campion, Greta Gerwig. Wouldn't mind seeing her work with Jean Marc Vallee. I guess this would film in NYC and Paris then? Let's all remember Whatever Makes You Happy though. Guess we'll need to keep checking Prod Weekly to see if it's listed in any of the new issues.

I just remembered I got sent a screener of The Sisters Brothers for awards season. Never got around to watching it tho cuz there were so many titles to go through. My critic friends who did see it said it was weird, but not bad. If French Exit is a go and we get official word, I'll give it a watch since my copy is still around somewhere. I'll also probably read the novel since it does sound interesting.
This could be a great project and character for Michelle; someone complex and gray with a bit of a flair to her

I've sent a couple of emails and tweets to folks at Hollywood Reporter to see if have any inside scoop. Everyone should do the same to see if we get anymore information.

I tried looking at recent interviews with the author to see if he mentioned anything about selling the film rights and to who...no luck so far tho. He does mention being a fan of Wes Anderson and one article mentions that the novel unfolds in the style of an Anderson movie

Wes Anderson would be a dream but he's just wrapped a film and most of his movies seem to be a big ensemble which I don't think this film is.

Not to mention the fact that he pretty much only directs his own material, or at least not novel adaptations, with the exception of Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I wanna know who has adapted the screenplay. The book was only published last August so pretty quick turnaround getting the film rights acquired and getting the screenplay adapted. I wonder if Michelle did play apart getting this made? Be great if she took it to her FBB pal Steve Kloves.

More casting news for Death on the Nile and filming due to start in September. Don't think Michelle will be involved in this. Hopefully French Exit is next.

Remember 2 weeks ago when we were hoping for confirmation of something soon and now we have two projects confirmed.
Which project is everyone most excited about - French Exit or Turn of Mind? I think they both sound good and are so different from each other.

Oh gosh, that's SUCH a tough question!! Both are such specific genres, mystery/thriller and surreal/absurdist comedy; both of which I'm all about. I probably won't know until I've read both books and seen which is the better story and character
I'm just gonna throw this out there, I know it's too early to be thinking beyond these two projects, but I hope she does something big budget after this. We're getting two somewhat intimate, smaller scale films in a row and I'm so excited and grateful that we are. However, I don't want her to not be in the forefront of major studio producers' minds when they're casting high profile projects by staying in this end of the spectrum for too long. I know, it's probably not a real danger, just my worrying, but still...it makes for a nice variety lol
