OMG - sounds fantastic. deadline.com/2019/05/annette-bening-michelle-pfeiffer-team-for-feature-adaptation-of-alice-laplantes-turn-of-mind-cannes-1202612446/From Deadline... "Oscar nominees Annette Bening and Michelle Pfeiffer are boarding director Gideon Raff’s thriller Turn of Mind, which is the feature adaptation of the Alice LaPlante New York Times bestseller. Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright is adapting the psychological thriller which centers around a retired orthopedic doctor suffering from Alzheimer’s who is trying to figure out – in her moments of clarity – if she killed the person the police claim she had, or if she’s being deceived. Producing are Gail Berman through The Jackal Group, Well Told Entertainment’s Rory Koslow, and Raff. Rocket Science will finance the film and launch international sales at Cannes next week. CAA Media Finance represents the U.S. domestic rights." Has anyone read the book? 1) This news is thrilling 2) Why was this news released late on a Friday night! Just seeing it now 3) It almost doesn't feel real lol

Delighted that we have another project announced so soon. Boy, Pfeiffer meant it when she said she wanted to work more. Remember those dark days of 2005/2010/2014? Loved that its a thriller and with Annette Bening. A little concerned that Pfeiffer seems to have the smaller role. I would hate to see her sitting on the sidelines with Bening getting all the praise. I really do think this could work in her favor if she gets pushed for awards when that season comes around. Lead for French Exit and Supporting for Turn of Mind. Double the chances!!

If this ever was going to be an awards contender it would be Bening pushed for Lead and Pfeiffer Supporting. Not to get ahead of ourselves but could you imagine Michelle in lead actress for French Exit against Annette for this.

I don't know enough about indie distributors to say which is the best fit, but I hope this and / or French Exit make the fall film festival circuit. Although it would probably be 2020. I can't tell which of the two is more critic friendly either, but I'd guess it was French Exit because TOM sounds pretty mainstream.
How do we like the title? I don't know - it's a bit dull sounding to me. How about Mindf&*k?
Probably wouldn't play in Peoria...... LOL

Things would be a lot different in the film industry.

LOL I can see French Exit being the more critic-friendly as an overall film in terms of writing, acting, directing, etc...all of it sounds like a film that critics can get behind. Turn of Mind I can see being acclaimed solely for it's acting more than anything else. The appeal of it will be the two of them, the scenes they share and how they feed off each other's acting energies. The screenwriter for this is a newbie too, whereas De Witt has experience as both a novelist and a screenwriter whose works have made it to the screen. Turn of Mind as a title, I don't hate cuz it feels clean and simple. I'm only worried that people might forget it cuz nothing about it jumps out at you.

Out of her two new films this one seems like it will be the one to find a bigger distributor. Considering it was previously attached to Fox 2000. STX Entertainment would also be a good home for this one. French Exit seems like a smaller indie film that would suit A24, Annapurna or Roadside Attractions.

I agree!! STX might be a good fit. Also, if one of them ended up at Amazon, that wouldn’t be the worst thing

Amazon aren't the worst actually. A lot of times they'll team up with another distributor so it gets released in theatres. Don't want Netflix or Annapurna but they would be much better than what Where is Kyra got so I suppose I'd take them.

I wasn’t a fan of the book. The mystery and Amanda’s character are an underwhelming suplot with an even more underwhelming resolution. Amanda only appears in about 4-5 of the protagonists memories, but she is mentioned a lot because of the murder. I’m sure (or maybe hope) the role will be beefed up for the film.
The book is only of interest because it’s told from the unreliable POV of someone with Alzheimer’s, her tragic interaction with her family, who she remembers less and less, and her sometimes believing that she’s her younger self. And I’m not sure how well that will translate to film.

Look at how much her character in Stardust was beefed up between the book and the movie. In the book, she didn’t even have a name, let alone much of a storyline; at least compared to what ended up on the screen.
I’m sure they’ll do the same here. She doesn’t sign up for projects that she feels doesn’t give her something to do that’s worth her time

Doesn't sign up for projects SHE feels don't give her something to do that’s worth her time. Not WE/US. She has her own criteria for what she deems worthy of her participation; and fair enough. It's her career. Only exception is probably Ant-Man since that action sequence featuring her and Hank was cut, as well as an additional de-aged scene. Having those cut was a slap since I'm sure they appealed to her in terms of the character
But honestly, she can do a half dozen French Exits in a single year and most of us wouldn't be satisfied for too long before we started craving whats next!! At least I know that'd be the case for me! Her filmography would look A LOT different if I were in charge of it ha ha

Gideon Raff has probably made quite a few changes if he's been working on this film for 4 years. Probably beefed up the friendship between the two characters given his description of the film.

Possibly...maybe that's also why its taken as long as it has to get made. A story of a complicated friendship between two women that ends up in murder...not the most appealing or easiest of sells for some executives/investors. I wonder who was cast before it was Bening and Michelle.
