She's got more humanity than Ingrid, except perhaps when it comes to herself. There is a good-sized scene with her talking about some of her childhood experiences and how they shaped her into the woman/mother she is, which definitely helped in understanding her. I could see this being expanded in the film. There's so much of the book that is ripe for exploring further in the film, even though it is a fairly cinematic novel on its own IMO Oh, nice. That sounds like it could be an "Oscar clip". Okay, I'm getting carried away, Lol.

I just can't wait for this to start production. Feels like forever since we first heard about this.
SAME! I wanna see lots of set pics with Mich and Lucas
BABYFACE: does Lucas have a good role or just a pouty son ?

He’s definitely the less flashy of the two lead characters, but the role does give him plenty to work with. It could be something totally different for him, even if he isn’t who you picture when you read the character on the page

Sony Pictures Classics founder Michael Barker: He was not talking directly about French Exit, but rather their approach to buying films and projects at festivals, etc. I'm feeling really good about French Exit. They are confident. I found some more interesting tidbits. SPC bought Pedro Almodovar’s “Pain & Glory” when the script was still being written. That's gotten very good reviews and will be an Oscar contender this year. They also bought Ira Sachs' “Frankie,” starring Isabelle Huppert, Brendan Gleeson, and Marisa Tomei, based on the screenplay. This one however isn't getting great reviews and is a disappointment, so you just never know how these projects will turn out.

This is in the latest addition of Production Weekly. Most likely filming dates and maybe other cast members. Wish it wasn't so expensive.

They might move to Paris in December, which is appropriate since the Paris scenes take place at Christmastime

Not sure. My guess is they will film two weeks or so in Paris after Montreal. Really stoked for this one!

Lucas is currently in London. I'm assuming the long hair he's been rocking is for French Exit?
He's there for Honey Boy promotion and also attending the AMPAS New Members Event in London. Funny though as seen pictures and people are dressed pretty glamourous and Lucas turns up in a green jumper, joggy's and a pair of trainers.

The first crew member for this film has been added to IMDB, and surprisingly it's the graphic designer (they design newspapers, posters, tile floors, pictures, boxes etc. that are featured in the film). I would have thought the Art Director would be hired first, unless they just haven't added them yet for some reason. Anyway, I'm pretty sure this is his Instagram. Keep any eye on it, maybe he'll share some stuff for the film! www.instagram.com/wolfman75/

Jean-Michel Le Gal added to the cast list on IMDb as Customs Agent. Imagine this will be one of the small roles. 2 weeks till this starts filming.

This is filming in less than 2 weeks and we still don't know the supporting cast. From reading the synopsis it sounds like Joan - Frances childhood friend, Madeline - the medium, Susan - Malcolm's ex-fiancé and the private investigator are the other main players.

Sometimes cast members are announced after filming has started. Maybe we won't hear all of the cast until they move to France for filming that portion of the story?

New casting announcement from Deadline:
Patti Cake$ breakout star Danielle Macdonald has come aboard the Azazel Jacobs-directed film, French Exit, which was recently picked up by Sony Pictures Classics. The Sydney-born actress joins Michelle Pfeiffer, Lucas Hedges, and Tracy Letts in the comedy-drama based on the international bestselling book by Canadian novelist Patrick deWitt, who also adapted the screenplay.
Not clear which role though.

Not familiar with the actress as not seen her in anything. I'm guessing she'll play the part of Malcolm's ex Susan.
