I bet that Pfeiffer will post something once filming starts.

Just finished French Exit and loved it. What a great piece of writing. It has such a wisdom and humor to it, but also feels really accessible. I can't wait to see what Michelle does with this character since she's such a force of nature. The film won't be to everyone's taste, but oh well...lol It's a little curious that they're filming this later in the summertime when the bulk of the novel takes place during late December/early January. The Christmas scene between Frances and Malcom is quite memorable in an offbeat touching way. Did you like the ending? Would you say Pfeiffer has an "Oscar clip" scene? Lots to work with? It's a bit open ended with a sort of "life goes on" sort of touch, at least it felt that way for me. Michelle does have a lot to work with. She's easily the most attractive and intriguing character in the room and the role is so rich in layers and complexity. I'm kind of surprised she took this on since there are some elements to the character which, perhaps in the past, she would have found "scary." There are at least 3 potential Oscar clip scenes that I can see being transferred to the screen, the best one being this tragic story from her childhood that she tells the group over dinner. The whole novel was darkly funny but also tragically beautiful. I actually finished it while over here on vacation and yesterday went off and bought an earlier novel by Patrick De Witt to read on the plane back home ha ha he's a very interesting writer

Hopefully we'll start hearing more casting news soon. Me too!! I kept picturing Frances Conroy as the American woman who who befriends Frances and Malcom in Paris. She'd be perfect.

But I shouldn't judge since I haven't read it yet.

To be fair, I personally wouldn’t know how else to end that kind of a story ha ha the whole story was far too unconventional of a tale for it to have a resolution that was clear cut and felt authentic

Well, it's definitely not going to be for mainstream audiences. There's just nothing too much that's mainstream about it. It's asking audiences to laugh at moments (moments, I might add, which are actually funny) in the midst of an ongoing situation that isn't all that funny, specifically the tragic nature of the characters' lives. It also asks audiences to like people who aren't really all that likable/admirable, which has always been something of a stumbling block for average moviegoers. But there's nothing overly weird about it...except for the cat element lol

Don't be nervous. If done right, the critical media will eat this movie up. This is the kind of thing they tend to embrace. I'm actually tempted to read the book again which isn't something I normally do. This was just such a rich story and I was just so taken with it, that I wanna spend more time there.

Alessandro Nivola and Azazel Jacobs have started following each other on Instagram. Wonder if he could be in the cast? Maybe the bashful private investigator?

Surprised there's no news about other casting yet. Hopefully soon since it's almost August and I'm booored, lol. I wonder if they will film in Toronto first?

Sometimes the supporting cast is announced once production is underway. Maybe that's the case here.

Meanwhile Lucas Hedges has been cast in a new FX pilot which has started filming today. It's only a half hour show which I can't see taking too long although Deadline says the plan is to film 2 episodes. Probably end of August before French Exit shoots.

They probably needed more time to scout locations and get everything ready anyway.

I still think Azazel could also be waiting for his frequent DP Tobias Datum to finish up on Kevin Hart's Fatherhood as he has done all his other feature films.

But his body of work is not very impressive, so far anyway. I wish they'd go with someone else but yeah, directors usually like sticking with the same DP.

Not corny really...but rather lightly comical. What makes it humorous is the fact that Frank acts like he can't be bothered to have to talk with anyone

Lucas Hedges is in Hollywood, or was recently so they are not filming yet. Maybe he is there to meet with Pfeiffer and do table readings? Or do they do table readings on location where they are actually going to film? I have no idea.
