She nabbed a Best Supporting Actress nom for WOL in the Critics Choice Awards announced this morning, but nothing for mother!. They also overlooked Never Forget in the Best Song category. They nominated SEVEN actresses in Supporting Actress and Pfeiffer still missed the cut. Sad. I'll say it again, Mary J. Blige does NOT deserve all this praise and these nominations. She des NOTHING in Mudbound.

Just to piggayback off of this, here is a SAG member/voter who replied to me about a possible surprise Pfeiffer nomination. This is the one thing that has me still somewhat hopeful that she'll get nominated for at least a SAG award, the industry support for this film is still big and the Supporting Actress category is more likely to have a surprise nominee compared to the others, based on past years. We'll see in a few days.

If they want to reward someone's talent and acting skill, Michelle will be in, but if they only choosing a best supporting role, well, then...

Gotta say I disagree...the character is so rich and full of life under the surface. The brilliance of Michelle's work is how she doles out her character's backstory in the slightest, yet most magnetic of ways. You could so easily picture this woman as a real person outside of Aronofsky's realm. Michelle brings her to life to the point where it's possible to get a sense of her and the life she lived before coming to the house. That's all Michelle..without her talent and her analysis of the character, those r just abstract lines of dialogue. Admittedly, I wasn’t a fan of the film but I thought Michelle was extraordinary and after I read the script online, I realized just how much she brought to an underwritten role. The character on the page is very spare - not much to build on at all, yet as Babyface said so well, Michelle made her come to life. This to me is the mark of a great actress, someone who manifests the inner life of a character to the point where you forget they’re acting. Awards recognition or not, this was a smart move on her part and she delivered more than perhaps even Aronofsky was expecting.

That's such an annoyance of mine when it comes to the way ppl vote within the industry; when they look at the role rather than the performance. It's the performance which makes the role, not the other way around IMO

Most recently, Naomi Watts scored a random SAG nom for St. Vincent. But I remember Ruby Dee getting a surprise SAG nom for American Gangster 10 yrs ago. She won that award n was nominated for an Oscar for the same film. The buzz was rather strong for her that many ppl expected her to win even tho, besides the SAG award, she had NO other noms or wins from the Globes or any other critics groups going into the Oscars. The same was true of Sandra Bullock. Her buzz for The Blind Side back in 2009/10 didn't even start until she pulled a surprise win at the Golden Globes...everyone was like: WTF?! but it took her all the way to the Oscars.

Smart move, coupled with the success of MOTOE and the acclaim/success of WOL. All of these projects and the response to her work in them has got to bring something exciting soon n I can't wait to see what it is. I just wish we had something so that I could take my mind off being disappointed by the awards shut out. I dunno bout anyone else, but I'm starting to let my disappointment over lack of awards recognition for mother! take away from the recognition she's getting (n will prob continue to get) for WOL. I'm happy for her critics choice nom n the Globe and SAG nom she could possibly get for her performance as Ruth Madoff. The Critics Choice and SAG awards r two prizes that I've always wanted her to win at some point in her career. If there was any chance she could win them for WOL, that'd be fine w me!

This is why part of me wants to say "screw it, Pfeiffer doesn't need these awards, she's better than that and not a thirsty for awards person like Kate Winslet" but on the other hand, a big part of me wants her to get recognition and awards if she deserves it, it's good for her and her career.

Yea some people say Michs nomination for White Oleander was a shock but no it was not because she had the best reviews and also a lot of buzz ever since the Toronto premiere and she won a film critics award as well didnt she? There was someone else whos name escapes me but it was for Unhook the Stars and that was a shocking nomination Marisa Tomei, I think

Another awards ceremony where Pfeiffer will most likely show up: the WGA awards (Writers Guild) in February. David E. Kelley was just nominated for Big Little Lies, so I'm sure Pfeiffer will be there with him. Also, The Wizard of Lies was nominated for its screenplay as well, which is kind of funny because I didn't think the writing was that good.

Steve Pond of The Wrap mentions Pfeiffer as a possible GG nominee for 'mother!'. He is pretty dialed in with inside information and talks with some HFPA members. Best Supporting Actress Predictions: Mary J. Blige, “Mudbound”; Holly Hunter, “The Big Sick”; Allison Janney, “I, Tonya”; Laurie Metcalf, “Lady Bird”; Octavia Spencer, “The Shape of Water” Three of the nominees – Hunter, Metcalf and Janney – are obvious. Everybody loves Spencer, who’s got a killer scene late in “The Shape of Water” and knows what to do with it. And then there are Melissa Leo in “Novitiate,” Hong Chau in “Downsizing,” Michelle Pfeiffer in “mother!” But Blige just might have more buzz. www.thewrap.com/golden-globes-2018-movie-predictions/Also, the San Diego critics cirlce did not nominate Pfeiffer. They were the one group I thought might recognize her.

Ugh, I know the scene your talking bout, but if she gets recognized cuz of it, I'm gonna be mad cuz she doesn't really do anything in it other than react to Michael Shannon's brilliant work.

I continue to see interview after interview and ads promoting J-Law in the Best Actress category, yet Paramount is doing nothing to push Pfeiffer. I don’t get it because hers is the most memorable performance in the film, although I do give Lawrence props for endurance and bravery. My prediction is the film will be completely shutout when the Oscar nominees are announced.

North Texas Film Critics Association nominated Lawrence for Best Actress but left out Michelle. They also nominated Swinton for supporting for her role in Okja. Whatever

Michelle nominated ! Iwas waiting a nomination for 'Mother' but I wait for SAG and Oscars. There is always some surprises at nominations and that it's very good.
Many of these awards are politics and the follow the lists of octuber or november of possible nominations, few surprises...
Stop of Meryl Streep, please and how Sandra Bullock has won an Oscar and not Michelle and others...

Delighted she got acknowledged in some capacity. Sadly, she won't win it, but this might just spur her on and force her to poke her agent for meatier roles. Seems like 'mother!' was shut out completely.
Overall, this is still a big win guys. Her first GG nom in almost 25 years.

Don't even get me started on Sandra Bullock winning an Oscar for a mediocre performance in a movie that resembled a Lifetime movie. Well, I am shocked the HFPA acknowledged her for WOL considering how crowded the Best Supporting Television Actress category was. Who knew WOL would end up being her most critically acclaimed project in 2017? Not me - not by a mile.

The fact that they didn’t nominate their darling Jennifer Lawrence tells me they just hated ‘mother!’ and wanted nothing to do with it at all. Another nomination for Blige...ugh. And I love Octavia Spencer, but she does nothing in Shape of Water. So boring. At least they didn’t nominate Holly Hunter. Perhaps SAG will be the one group to finally give us some big surprises in this category? Now to the important question: who will Pfeiffer be seated with??? At the Big Little Lies table with David. Or at some random table with De Niro? Can’t wait!

I'm shocked too now that I think bout it since it takes what is usually three separate categories at the Emmys n chooses the top among them, according to them. I guess in a way it isn't surprising. WOL is accessible, safe n w just enough prestige that it would score w the right kind of ppl/voters...mainly the kind who wouldn't like mother!

Thrilled to see Michelle get another GG nomination after so long. Disappointed to see her work in mother! passed by but hopefully the day is coming when she claims all the awards. Also great to see Michelle and David both being nominated for their work this year.
