www.tgo-tv.net/watch/live-tv/hbo-live-stream.phpokay so i have used it and watched it before, but there are pop ups and ads, so its a bit annoying. on the screen, there will be boxes where the video will be u have to click the small X's until they close and then the stream will show up but when u click the x's pop ups will come up and also new tabs so u have to close those as fast as possible and obviously u dont want to download anything so dont download anything if it asks u. all these sites have these ads and stuff so if u dont want to deal with it i understand but it really does work once u get rid of all the pop ups. i dont know if this works on smart phones or tablets i have only used it on my computer. this is the United States stream so even if u live in another country u can watch Wizard of Lies when people in the US watch it it will be on saturday may 20 at 8pm eastern time / 5 pm pacific standard time so u gotta figure out what time that is where u are obviously also u can see just above the screen where the video stream is, it says STREAM 1 OR STREAM 2, so if STREAM 1 isnt working click on STREAM 2 and it should work

So, let's just go ahead and make this the live viewing thread for "The Wizard of Lies", shall we? I'll edit the title of the thread. I hope more members and guests will engage in this thread tomorrow while we all watch. And thank you Sara for the link so more people have access to watch.
Can't believe this will be on tomorrow! It's been two years since it started filming, yes?

people who didnt like this are crazy. it was very good, much different than expected. very dark. Michelle was great but i agree, not in it as much as she should have been!

I agree about the Azaria scene n the scene where they're all dancing to Sweet Caroline...it was just too on the nose for me. Those r the only weak scenes in the whole film IMO...I thought the film was a bit scattered due to all the jumping back and forth between years...I would loved to have seen this family's life disintegrate n implode chronologically...I think it would have made it more interesting n the audience might have been more invested...overall tho, this is the kind of HBO film that the company is known for- dark, brutal, but with great acting and standout scenes.
As for Michelle, I thought she was fantastic. She provided a little bit of humor, a lot of conflict and really came through with the demands of the role and the prestige of the project. One critic said it was difficult to find something for her character to do in the second half, but I disagree. For me, she seems at a bit of a loss in the first 30 min or so in terms of fully fitting into the story...but this is a part n a performance which gets stronger and more energized as the film progresses.
One of the things I always look for in a Pfeiffer film is how her character exits the story and the impression the woman she's playing leaves...some of my favorites have been Susie walking away from Jeff Bridges with a smile in Baker Boys, the flashback of Ellen turning around in The Age of Innocence, the close-up of Laura's eyes in Wolf and even the simple, yet stunning drawing of Ingrid in White Oleander.
This one may not be on par with some of those, but I do love the film's final image of Ruth and the place she's at after such a long journey

I really liked this quite a bit. I agree about the jumping back and forth, but it was an interesting way to tell the story. Perhaps they tried too hard to be different from the ABC miniseries? I gotta say, the negative reviews that De Niro got, I'm puzzled by, he was pretty damn good, as was Alessandro Nivola. I would have liked to have seen more of Lily Rabe and Kristin Connelly, they're both so talented.
They could definitely have given Pfeiffer more to do, but I agree she got stronger as it went on. This was not perfect, but not nearly as bad as the negative reviews made it out to be.

But I don't think she was at all. This was a good role and she excelled in it.

The film was much better than I expected after reading some of the negative reviews.
The only scene that didn't work for me was the DeNiro dream sequence when they tried to overdose. It added nothing dramatically except to give the editors some interesting footage to include in the trailer. But Michelle was perfectly deadpan in this sequence - she made it tragically comic in the most believable way. What I admired most about her performance was the way she captured the irony of Ruth's personality and her situation. Pfeiffer made you believe that someone could live that life and still not connect the dots or object to the depravity that was surrounding her: Bernie and his business machinations, his abusive treatment of their sons, or his public demonstrations of the Trump mambo with other women. That's a very fine line to walk as an actress and I thought she brought a lot more to the characterization than what was on the page or in the director's head.
The time jumps didn't bother me - they were appropriately schizophrenic and served the whacked nature of the story. And I loved the framing device of having the actual writer / reporter interview Bernie / DeNiro in prison. Those scenes sparked for me and the last line from DeNiro was perfect. DeNiro finally redeemed himself in my eyes with this astounding performance.

I didn't mind the dream sequence, it did go on a bit too long though. They certainly could have tightened this entire film up in post, for sure. I also want to say that I thought the suicide scene was very well done and very dark.
As for awards, I'm not sure this will win anything, anywhere. De Niro should get some nominations and if there is justice, so will Alessandro Nivola. I just don't know about Pfeiffer. It's such a competitive year, I think it'll be tough for her to gain any traction. This kind of fell flat in terms of buzz last night and today. The buzz leading up was far stronger. Will it be memorable? I'm not so sure. But it's HBO and they have endless money so we'll see what they do.

Watched it again and it still is pretty good, IMO. Holds up well.
Pfeiffer is getting a lot of praise and love on Twitter for her performance, too bad Twitter users don't vote for Emmys. A lot of news reporters, journalists and cinema folks are all loving her work. I also saw the co-creator of Sleepy Hollow (the Fox TV show) and the co-writer of Game of Thrones really raved Pfeiffer's performance, too.

I plan to watch it again this week.
No idea how the Emmy voting will go, but I think she deserves a nomination for this performance.
I don't know if the real Ruth Madoff has a soul or not, but Michelle gave her one with her deadpan, serio-comic take on a woman who took enabling, denial and privilege to new extremes. I liked the physical aspects of her performance too. The slouched posture, the downcast chin, the brittle shoulders all hunched-up, the nervous smoking habit and the ever present wine glass. Michelle used all of that without letting the props upstage her. I think it's her best work since White Oleander and, in some ways, she topped that performance when you factor in the degree of difficulty with playing a real life character who remains a mystery to this day.

I'll have to wait until 1st June as I'm also in the UK but looking forward to seeing her performance. How much screen time would you say she has out the 2+ hrs?

I would have to go back and time it, but I am guessing about 45 - 50 minutes total.
It's a large cast with several supporting actors taking up considerable screen time.
Anyone else have a better gauge of this?

It's really tough to say...I can't even think of another film of her's to compare it to in terms of screen time (maybe The Family??)
The only thing I can say is that her presence in the film in terms of screen time starts out relatively minor, but then grows and grows as the film goes on.

one thing bugging me is the scene where she finds out her son killed himself, they have her go off camera and scream but they could have given her a stronger scene there and kept camera on her and showed her face and reaction to it! it would have been more powerful

Oh......I think the screaming scene they just did it this way in purpose, to let people more focus on her voice (which is really powerful here and heartbreaking), very strong one and absolutely amazing, how she nailed it!!!
Sadly she doesn't really have as much as screen time we expected (wanted) though, and most of her parts already shown in clips, a real supporting role.

It would have been much more effective n powerful had we got to see her reaction

hi guys! i found Wizard of Lies online u can watch for free the recorded upload if u haven't had a chance or cant watch it yet. it is a very high quality version too! this one has pop ups too but not as bad as the other one and there are no little X's u have to click on to close either, just click play, close pop up and click play again. if it keeps buffering or gets slow u just pause the video and give it like 10 minutes so it can load and then play again putlocker.today/watch/zGWJqyxP-the-wizard-of-lies.html

I'm actually starting to feel a lot better about her chances for an Emmy nomination, and SAG too. When you think about it, she has been friends with a lot of TV people due to David's TV work. Not only the stars of all of his shows, but execs and producers, directors, writers, etc. A lot of past and present TV stars are fans of hers too, like Megan Mullally, Kim Cattrall, Jennifer Aniston, Jane Lynch, Ryan Murphy, Missi Pyle and many others. And like I said, some fairly important TV folks have raved her performance in Wizard of Lies, like the Game of Thrones writer and co-creator of Sleepy Hollow. Joss Whedon and D.V. DeVincentis (Emmy winner for American Crime Story) liked this tweet from Mark Harris:

I am seriously tired of people STILL complaining about Pfeiffer's accent on Twitter, etc. That's how people from Queens talk, including the real Ruth Madoff! And have they never heard Fran Drescher speak???
